Another one taken in by the Tory propaganda and their media machine.

Europe are NOT struggling for HGV drivers, otherwise why would this shower of **** be going there to hire them?? Think about it...

A report from Transport Intelligence, an analytical company who at first glance has no links to this Government, suggest otherwise.

    https://www.ti-insight.com/briefs/europes-road-freight-market-short-of-more-400000-drivers/

I also posted a link to a Road Haulage Association article in an earlier post showing that if it wasn’t for COVID we’d have more drivers now (providing they all passed their tests) then before Brexit, even with 20k drivers going back to Europe.

Brexit has been a **** show, especially with a incompetent Government over seeing it, but not everything can be blamed on it. However, on here whenever you see a post about Brexit and someone suggests the issue is not a direct cause of Brexit they get name called and put down and constantly asked for proof, whilst just saying something is caused by Brexit is proof enough without needing anything to support it.

I’ve posted 2 links to articles in this thread - feel free to rip them to pieces if they aren’t correct.

I know I’ve replied to your post, and this isn’t just a comment to you, but provide some proof to back it up for a proper debate, other then because others think it or it’s what a person wants to believe then it must be correct regardless.

Wasting your time, three different independent links have been posted showing it’s an industry issue all over Europe, despite that people will believe what they want to believe.
That said there is no doubt Brexit and COVID have greatly influenced the current situation, but is certainly not the only reason.

I just got my passport back in record time. And I live in a different country.
Oh, and we don't have any shortages here.

for twenty years since the free movement of people came about the supply chain industry in this country has seen wages stagnate to the NMW or slightly higher, HGV drivers in p;articular are now receiving wage increases that have been unheard of for decades, i personally have had three wage increases since june, others are seeing the same or better with loyalty/retention bonuses now becoming the norm.
this scenario is a result of both brexit and the pandemic.

the loss of the endless supply of cheap eastern european labour is causing companies to fight to attract and retain staff and wage increases are happening all over the place , whether this be as a hgv driver or elsewhere in supply chain.

for far too long companies have milked the eastern europeans who thought they were on to a winner earning three and four times what they could back home, you cant blame these folks for coming here but this is where the free movement of people screwed the lower paid in society,

the big coorporates are now whining about a lack of available manpower but what is really galling them is having to pay proper living wages, there is now talk of a relaxation of the rules to get the eastern europeans back here and i can tell you from experience there are very few hgv drivers who are happy about this as they know wages will start to stagnate once more as eastern europeans come back here with many living in their trucks for months on end.

BTW, there is no fuel shortage, the company i work for (newell and wrights) also have a company called Appollo Fuels, working out of the same yard as i do and there is no shortage of diesel or petrol, the chaos over the last week was caused by the media latching on to four BP garages in london who were having supply difficulties
