Where’s the Directors and Press etc going to go? If it’s unsafe then it’s unsafe for all not just fans
It's an absolute fu¢king embarrassment for the decline of that stand to have gone on so long. Whoever's playing silly ba$tards over the ground ownership issue needs a good shoeing. You're making us look like a fu¢king pub side.
I'm fairly certain that the current situation with the ground would be damaging for all parties (Council, Crynes, Conway/Lee) the longer it goes unresolved. Crazy that it is just being left to rot.
This day has been inexorably coming since Patrick Cryne separated the stadium from the football club all those years ago. It never, ever, ever ends well.
Any chance of a photo of the letter? In the office today so this is news to me. I'm livid if true, it's completely unacceptable to sell tickets in a stand that is then condemned within 2 months of the season starting. EDIT: 'if true', I'm not doubting you for a second, I know you're a trustworthy poster.
Is the game here to get the council to demolish it and clear the land? Then come to an agreement. Then build a bespoke stand, much smaller capacity with dressing rooms, media suit, offices, corporate etc inside it. Wouldn't cost much, and would be easier to get sign off H&S wise.
'In line with our safety certificate, issued by the Sports Grounds Safety Authority, annually, Oakwell Stadium undergoes extensive structural inspections. Whilst a 130 year old stand is difficult to manage & maintain, it has been found that various remedial world is essential to the DX West Stand, and, to therefore ensure both your protection & the wellbeing of spectators, the Club has taken the necessary decision to close the stand until further notice. This closure will be immediate, meaning neither fans or directors will be permitted access to their seat until further notice. The stand will however remain operational on matchdays for visiting journalists & media. The decision is purely based on a structural report & a number of WEst Stand specific crowd management challenges. I wish it was one I did not have to make, but the welfare of supporters & staff must always remain a priority' 2 options: 1. Relocate to another stand. 2. Part refund for the season.
Just knock the thing down and plant trees if there's no brass. The levels of incompetence involved here are off the fu¢king chart....
So that's it? The end? We can't even have a 'Last Day in the West Stand' fancy dress theme day? Gutted. But yeah, act now, demolish / resolve / move on. End of an era, vive le revolution.
If Saturday was my last time sitting in the West Stand, at least my long lasting memory of it will be sat getting piss wet through as we meekly surrended to an 89th minute 1-0 defeat to Millwall. I wouldn't have had it any other way.
Over to Sir Steve then I'm guessing. Which means we'll have a knackered stand sitting empty until it turns to dust.
Strange there's nothing on the official site. Looks like it's a refund for me as i don't like sitting behind the goal and all the best seats have already gone in the East Stand also it's chuffing freezing in that stand.
