Yep, fair enough, but ease of access for many is an absolute nightmare for others. My opinion is if they want to spend brass on Oakwell then I'm all for that but if they need to move further afield then I'm equally ok with it. In all honesty, my preference would be to build a new stadium on the academy site and build training/academy facilities off-site. Keep the West Stand up by way of a joint agreement with the club/council/English Heritage and use it for functions, a museum and social club/restaurant. Would be expensive but I think most people would tolerate it. And yes, you can keep the ugly red wall if you want!
I think there's probably a lot more to this story than we know about. I don't trust the Crynes or Chien's lot to be honest.
New all mod cons stadium for me let’s move with the times and try to compete with other championship clubs on and off the field
Maybe my comment on the jobsworth steward was more than just tongue-in-cheek then, and he has refused to work with such anarchists who merely wish to keep dry? Edit: My letter has just arrived too ........ signed Khaled
Slow death imo into obscurity , most locals can get to town in one bus journey with facilities of the town centre on tap . With the state of public transport anywhere else is gonna be a nightmare IMO and a lot of fans won’t bother over time . A park and ride scheme would help but with fares almost £2:50 for a journey of four bus stops won’t help . It’s not just a case of Oakwell being our home for 130 odd years although that’s a compelling case but it’s also a central hub for the local and surrounding supporters .
But they are still owed installments for the football club and the owners have been stalling on. Just seems like a mess to me.
There is nothing wrong with 75% of Oakwell, and would be a complete waste to knock it down and move out of town. It just needs a bit of TLC to bring it back to life. You can even easily increase capacity by building in the corners, and I'm sure the Ponty was designed to be easily expanded should we need to. The West Stand is obviously at the point now of needing replacing now, but again is it worth throwing away the est of the stadium, 130+ years of history and memories, a stadium that is central to almost the entire community, within walking distance of the town with it's bus/train stations and shitloads of pubs/cafes/shops etc just because one stand needs rebuilding? Then you have to consider the fact that at the minute the club's entire operation is all on one site. That's the stadium, admin offices, media offices, training facilities, academy, gym, physio facilities(I know they are not all the most modern of facilities, but a new West Stand could fix that). It must be much easier to run the club like that(and cheaper) than having land/facilities scattered all over?
Technically our owners haven't bought the whole club. The Cryne's still own 20 per cent and haven't received all the money for that. How much have they actually paid. The Cryne's and Council own the ground. There isn't actually that much that the PMG actually own. Especially if they haven't paid for it in full. I can see the new owners losing in court and the Cryne's being left with a club and dilapidated stadium they can't afford to run.
Hopefully were getting sold again because I'm far from convinced by this consortium. Maybe thats why schopp is still in a job.
Another thing to consider in this, the WSL seems to be a mixed age group. The WSU seems to be a lot of older folks, and I'm not being condescending in that, it is just an observation. I can't see some of them walking up the many steps to a new seat in the ESU.
