2-0 to the Poles already. Mike Brolly got the second (own goal). He used to be good for Grimsby. Must be getting on a bit!
He’s really establishing himself in that squad now. But I have a very selfish viewpoint on it, purely for the love of our club. To see Stones and Trippier turn out for England, knowing that we made one and helped launch the other, gives a sense of pride. But to see Helik performing well and getting noticed on the world stage just worries me that it will bring the next stage of his career, away from us, ever closer. He is a fantastic player and professional, but I just wish he was our secret treasure rather than making a name for himself on the big stage. That’s my selfish fan point of view. I guess our owners will just relish seeing his stock rise.
Undisclosed £250,000. Money which WILL be spent on improving the squad. Or which might go towards the repair of the old wooden thing.
Why not? He’ll be off to some top European club (Dortmund or the like) and they won’t know we usually accept peanuts so will make an opening bid of €30 million. That should be enough for a nice stand
The time to cash in would normally have been last summer, especially after we’d made play offs with a solid defensive unit. However the market was dead post Covid. Can’t see him bringing in much cash in January when he’s part of a weak defence playing for a side fighting relegation. Guess someone will have to be sold soon though to balance the books and there’s no one else. Any fee will be £2m tops.
If he is & we don't sort out the striker situation, that will be the towel thrown in on the Championship. It's clear Morris won't be back till around Christmas, (from the interview on the website), so unless the Head Coach finds a way of playing with our limited striking options, which are really Woodrow & Iseka / the Ice Man I can't see any way we can stay up playing as we are. We have players in midfield that can score goals IMO. We need to move to a 2-5-3 formation. One holding, probably Palmer & Benson / Gomes & Stylo. I really hope he can see 3-4-3 isn't working, but I doubt it will happen, given what I've seen thus far. I expected a hard season, but not this. Rudderless is the word that comes to mind. If anyone has watched Patriot I reckon Conway & Schopp would make excellent tugboat captains.
Yep. We've got ourselves into a situation where selling Helik in January will probably send us down. They need to act now to have any chance of avoiding that. In terms of sorting out the West Stand situation I've no real problem with Helik being sold to fund it. We're a club who have always paid for ground development with player sales. Much as I heartily distrust the Board I never expected them to be philanthropists. They didn't come here to spend their own money and never said they would. Unless we magically find some philanthropists with deep pockets that's how it is I'm afraid.
It's not the lack of money that the West stand isn't getting the remedial work required, that's if we believe what the owners say, it's the lack of communications and compromise between both parties. On another note, Helik has outgrown us and deserves a decent move . Good luck to the lad .
Still pride that he got picked for Poland by playing at " little old Barnsley". I don't object to him moving on for a profit if Mads and Kitching and Toby are keeping it tight at the back, we do need to sell players for a profit to be sustainable after all. Hopefully the club can time it right.
