I’ve too big a family and a lot of friends to see to before investing in players with good wages tbh . Sponsorship would be my favoured money insert and maybe boosting academy facilities etc I’m daydreaming it all now
The Council part owning he ground is the best thing about the club at the minute at least it stops it being flogged off which is the usual modus operandi of asset strippers.
I'm not sure what their motive is, I am not convinced it is to asset strip though. Surely they would know BMBC would block any plans to demolish Oakwell for example? Maybe the hope of getting us to the PL and then selling us at a profit without investing much is more likely.
I haven't voted as it's all wishful thinking. I have no issues with the Cryne family staying involved in the club, as I've seen no evidence to date that they don't have its best interests at heart. The legal disputes, on the face of it, appear to be them protecting their interests against another party failing to adhere to an agreement. I can't say the same for the other investors and, sadly, as more information comes to light its becoming increasingly necessary to question their honesty and motives. Unfortunately, I don't think we'll simply see them willingly walk away, even if a reasonable offer was made to them. Regrettably, I think we're entering the early stages of a longer-term fans vs owners situation with the 80% group. I suspect ours will be similar to that of the Oystons and Blackpool, where on-field performance plays second fiddle and there's a total lack of investment while the club is allowed to limp on with a shoestring budget. Any meaningful income, most likely from transfers, is now fair game to be utilised for the benefit of the investment company. Whatever trust / benefit of the doubt I had remaining about them has been utterly destroyed by the events of the last few days, including the analysis of the latest accounts.
Barnsley Council are not the villains in all of this....what many don't know is prior to Patrick's death him and the council were at loggerheads as the council wouldn't sell him their share .....Patrick wouldn't give them certain guarantees re going forward and couldn't guarantee our future....from what I know those same guarantees couldn't be met by present owners too Whilst ever barnsley council have a stake in the club no one can come in take loans out or mortgage the club up to the hilt by using the land as security and therefore run up massive debt then just walk away ...whilst ever the council have their share there's always a home for football in town I repeat they are not the villains
No but they need to decide if they are gonna invest in the product or let it deteriorate. Are the council just happy to take the rent and not offer the best facilities? They treating like a council property with standard facilities .
Absolutely how I see it too. Looking at Nice, it got very nasty there and ConLee simply entrenched themselves til a very high offer came in. I can't see why anyone would value the club at 3-4 times what the suggested value of BFC was at the point of takeover and as such, I'm not sure why they would suddenly go, ok, you don't like us, we'll sell... not going to happen. They will want a significant return and without it, they will remain and likely agitate further.
It does seem like the council are being a tad obstructive though, doesn't feel like they want anyone else to own the land... I wonder why?
I'd say their hand are tied re investment and are between a rock and a hard place....unfortunately no matter what they do will upset both sides....let's not forget not everybody in the Borough are football fans imagine the out cry if they as land Lords payed and erected a new stand then in the next breath announced cuts to social services and the like due to a shortage of government funding....
I would imagine any new stand would be privately funded, definitely wouldn't come from public coffers.
The land upon which the training ground sits would revert back to the original owners due to the existing Covenant which if I'm not mistaken is policed by both the coop and council alike...can only be used for sport....the car park and the ground as I've stated above can't be mortgaged or have massive loans taken out on it Thus they are safe guarding our future
I agree but if they can’t deliver what’s needed it’s not fair on the fans . We have a situation where a lot of the fans love the west stand and a lot hating it as an eyesore . The council can’t invest to do it up and definitely can’t afford a new one and being in limbo doesn’t help the club or fans if it’s holding us back . Council can’t hold onto it for fear of the unknown but then not invest in its future . A covenant imo should suffice in that if an investor wants to do it up and make it a 24/7 venture they should be encouraged and aided but not as a non sport redevelopment unless a bespoke stadium nearby is purchased and used by the club then an alternative can be agreed . But meanwhile we are in limbo whereby it’s falling down but no ones allowed to develop it and reap the rewards .
The 20% ers had 100% but sold 80% to PMG so I'd doubt there's any chance reverting back. Can't see it happening but it would be nice if a fans consortium could buy it. Don't think we have many rich fans though.
