well he's got his feet under the table with Val and since we didn't get any wins in 2 admittedly very short spells under him I dont see this as a realistic option.
Maybe Devaney as a caretaker and I think he’d get us sorted and hyped for Sunday. Not too sure about first team manager though. A lot of push for Alex Neil and see the motivation behind that. Did a solid job for Preston and would understand limited resources. Controversial but as much as a ******** he comes across, I also wouldn’t mind Garry Monk. Always talks a lot of sense, niggly and has history at all 400 of his clubs for playing quite attacking football. The question is whether these two press. We have a squad majority of pressers. That needs to be implemented.
Never suggested Disco as first team manager in my original post. Always meant caretaker role for the local Derby on Sunday
Disco and / or Bobby would suit me on a game by game basis, but wouldn't want to spoil their standing amongst fans by throwing them to the lions in a permy role. It would ruin their hero status as it would have done previously with suggestions about Redfearn, Hignett, Glavin. If we still had Solly, he could have met the criteria of young, Austrian and ambituous. But that ship has sailed. He was switched on IMHO. Thinking of guys in the game with an affinity to BFC, obviously Alex Neil is up there, but what gets me is that he has followed the stats of other young British coaches who start out OK and their Win % gets lower as the years roll by. Steve Agnew spent a lot of time here and has all the coaching experience you could wish for. Has he ever had a lead role? Has he ever fancied one? Murray is a no from me ........... and I seem to recall that he was happier in an assistant role. He'll be on decent money at WBA with half the pressure. It's a tough one, but I just can't see Markus getting us out of this hole. It's OK saying lets get injured players back and see what they can bring, but I fear we could be doomed by then.
That isn't a bad call. He's currently part of the caretaker team at Newcastle & may be concerned he'll be out on his ear when the new regime comes in, so may be an option?
Alex Neil is quoted as saying he's no affinity with Barnsley. He just played here. Dour Scotsman. Dull as dishwater. A meh player too. Biggest compliment I can give him is I don't think anything about him. He was just a player that played here. Barely noticed.
Kept Swansea up when they were in the relegation zone when he took over. Took Leeds to their highest league position in eight years. Only left due to takeover. Got Birmingham to 17th place despite a transfer embargo and nine point deduction. The following three season after he left, they finished lower. I agree he may not be the best manager we could get but he’d do a job.
It's been said before that they probably wouldn't be interested for the same reason as Mick McCarthy in as much as it could ruin any good relationship they with the Barnsley faithful if they can't work a miracle and end up getting sacked!
