Slightly random post but advice appreciated. I've got tickets to see question of sport being filmed in salford quays tomorrow at 5pm. Got to be there by 1630 so clearly its tight after the game and my daughter would kill me if we dont get in . 1. Woodhead pass or M1/M62 quickest route? 2. Just clocked this is exactly the same time as Man U v Liverpool kicks off 1.5 miles away from the studio. Anyone got any parking/travel advice for that area on matchday? Ta. The option of sacking the game off and getting there in good time looking more appealing by the hour.....
I would say whichever route you take It’ll be busy. Personally I’d go Woodhead rather than M62 as Liverpool will be largely coming from that direction albeit from the opposite way, but It’ll be bottlenecked as you approach Manchester.
Ta. I was hoping we would be late for footy traffic if hitting Manchester only an hour before kick off. Main debate is tram from prestwich area (if M62) or driving straight to Lowry and parking there (from either route)
Parking could be the problem all the streets within 5 miles of old trafford are usualy chocka on matchdays
I wouldn't go woodhead as it bottlenecks at best of times and probably enough football to **** it up. Go to Holmfirth then A635 to Ashton, hardly ever any traffic and very scenic. There is a large multi-story behind the Lowry but I think the man utd fans will have had that full for some time. Personally I'd be inclined to park my car at the free park and ride at Ashton Moss and get the tram. Change at Picadilly for salford quays, will be packed but they usually cope, allow an hour from Ashton Moss to get from there to the BBC at Salford Quays, including walking from the tram stop
Ha. I had thought that. I've only missed Cov out of the home games this season as well so my logic says we win if I stay away . I think it is doable- thinking M1/62 and get tram from Prestwich to Salford which is 30 mins but as they are free tkts they always and out more than they can fit in so the studio is always full so later you rock up less likely to get in. Hr to Prestwich with no traffic and might get there. We can leave when its 0-3 after 70 mins anyhow.......
I would say train, only problem is change at Sheffield so the trains might be a bit full of blunt fans.
Car park attached to studios ( multistory) Get off for Trafford Centre drive in from there quicker miss town centre traffic.been for a couple of shows myself
You won't get close with Utd at home. The roads around media city are chocka on matchdays, plus the multi-storey will be full. Same with the one over at the Lowry. Throw in the fact that huge Van Gogh exhibition has just opened at media city, with queues snaking round the piazza if yesterday was anything to go by. Best bet would be tramming it in from a stop somewhere on the other side of town.
Woodhead shouldn't be too bad on a Sunday, alternative is to drop down into Holmfirth and then take the A635 over to Greenfield and Stalybridge.
If anyone is remotely interested left 1 min before 3-0, mystery tour of pennines as m62 shut and slowest tram in the world but got here 1656. On standby list but should get in. Happy daughter, stressed dad
