£750,000 was the difference between a profit and a loss for the year in those particular accounts. As operating capital for the club it would be a significant amount. Regardless of the amount, there's simply no justification for it in terms of the football club's operations, which I suspect is why no-one from within the club has gone on record to defend it. Fundamentally, for me, it's a massive red flag that anything I choose to spend within the club won't necessarily be used for the benefit of Barnsley Football Club Limited. Others may feel differently about how much they care about it, but for me it's the thing that has completely broken down any trust I had in the majority owners.
Yes and although we may not agree with it, there's nothing legally wrong, I don't think. However it's the fact they are claiming to have taken nothing out of the club that sticks, when they were not particularly open about this transaction
I've no idea about Burnley fans but Manchester United fans have been complaining about exactly that for years. It is extreme capitalism at its worst, a scam imo and nothing more than a money creation mechanism. And the fact those who do it don't invest and any of their own money stinks. I couldn't disagree more that because it's been done on several occasions it's ok. It's a disgrace that football's governing bodies allow it to continue.
It must have been raised because it was discussed at the meeting with Conway in August. However I suspect most didn’t realise quite what it meant until highlighted recently.

They are not billionaires, they are not putting any of their own money into the club and in fact they are doing the opposite and taking money out for their investment vehicle. The stadium situation is very worrying. They are a bunch of chancers trying to ******** us all. The sooner they **** off the better.
I'm not pointing fingers at any individual for not commenting on it, I did that to Red Rain previously which was unfair of me. My point was, when it was released it wasn't considered an issue despite it being known about. It barely raised a discussion. When the club began performing poorly on the pitch it became a huge issue discussed by many. For me it was always a huge issue and I have not renewed my season ticket because of it. Nor will I give any more money to a board of directors who bought the club with a reputation as billionaires who use money generated by ticket sales to pay their liabilities.
Not sure if it's down to the fact that it wasn't picked up on by the accountants on the board at the time, so wasn't clearly understood by everyone who read it. It seems that Archerfield's and my recent posts regarding it potentially gave the criticism more validity, although even then there are many who remain unperturbed by it on the basis that it isn't illegal and/or 'other clubs do it'. At the end of the day, everyone has their own personal 'red lines' as to what they will accept or otherwise. I've reached mine, perhaps belatedly compared to you, but the disgust regarding it is one I share with you.
There was reference to this on the day the accounts were posted, the payment certainly did not go unnoticed at the time, @Jay i think you made comment too. http://barnsleyfc.org.uk/threads/bfc-accounts-2019-20.305016/
Football fans will turn a blind eye to much worse than a £750k payment, so long as success is delivered on the pitch. Just look at the celebrations up in Newcastle when the Saudis took over. Hiring the odd useless manager isn’t quite in the same league as state sponsored murder, and the systematic abuse of human rights.
If the board won’t act maybe it’s time the fans do. I will no longer spend any further money at Oakwell. Might be a drop in the ocean but it’s one thing I can change.
I am the same. Didn't get a drink in the ground and due to early kick off went to Langdale Fisheries for something to eat rather than spend on the poor offerings inside the stadium.
I realise that I don’t understand finance and may have misunderstood this situation but if the club has paid £750k to the Cryne family and the Cryne family own 20% of the club, haven’t the Crynes been paid £150,000 they already owned?
Yes they've effectively been paid with their own money because although it was the clubs money 20% of it was theirs
Just re-read that thread. My point wasn't that it hadn't been referenced, I knew it had as I made a decision after it had been brought to my attention on this BBS, it was that it barely stimulated a debate and was criticised by very few at the time. Reading back there are a handful of people who mention it, literally a handful, some of whom are very clear they believe it's wrong, but there's nothing like the volume of criticism it received recently. Most of the posts are about the value of player sales and what great accounts they are. The thread recently added more detail, as it has now sparked an interest, I believe due to our failures on the field, which was my point, but there's no denying how explicit you made it at the time. Remiss of me to not to have thanked you at the time, and to those who added further detailed information in the recent thread, so I'll thank you all now - thank you, it was interesting and enlightening.
