The extra ST holders will mostly be long standing supporters who were motivated by last season's performances. Unless the current slump is ended and we all have something to celebrate, they and perhaps more will go back to picking their games, especially if we are back in League 1 next season.
I'm a floater. I haven't had a season ticket since 2019/20 season. I'd probably be in that bracket. It's looking like our first season tickets as a family will be in League 1. Waiting it out until George is old enough to come with me and Laura now. It isn't the same without Laura at matches anyway. That was the main reason I got out of the habit of going.
Ah, it'll be okay. There are thousands and thousands of loyal fans, who will follow the club for decades, just waiting for us to play in a new ground. The ONLY reason they're not attending at the moment is because Oakwell is a dump, past it's best and, in some places, a death trap! But a new ground will be perfect and take us forward as a club!.
I won’t be renewing next season either as I won’t be in this country. However, if I was still here I would be torn as to whether to renew or not; sadly I think I would be veering on the side not renewing.
I’m the same. Can’t see me going unless something changes. Season ticket next year looks unlikely. Thing that lockdown has shown me is that when you can’t do something, you just find something else. I’ve hardly been in a pub since everything opened back up. I just got used to never going. I can quite easily see a life without watching football.
I think that’s very true. I used to eat out pretty regularly at least a couple of times a week but since lockdown ended i haven’t been out on more than a handful of occasions. I certainly wouldn’t entertain going anywhere without table service whereas in the past it never bothered me. I really missed going to live music and going back felt brilliant and was a great release. Though I need to cut back on the serious vinyl habit I picked up doing lockdown. How much I genuinely missed going to Oakwell on a cold wet Tuesday night to watch a drab defeat when I could be on the sofa is a question the next few months will answer. Again I don’t think this is something the club is taken into consideration the post lockdown consumer switch.
Well I still havent decided on whether to take the refund - lets see after I get a chance to sit in my new seat. I think next season is a much bigger question though the only thing currently in favour of me renewing is I am one season away from getting an OAP season ticket at 60 - I think if I miss a year that will mean I would need to wait until 65 - though thats a small consideration if there arent changes in the way the club is run. Its not the fact I've lost my seat - though that is quite important but there were a great group around me who all had been going for 15 years+ and it was a good group to sit with even in the times when the team was rubbish - watching a rubbish team on your own doesnt have the same appeal - never mind giving money to the current owners
I find myself very fortunate with these owners . After having season tickets for us all in the family stand East stand upper tier for around 20 years . When my youngest said he wasn't bothered anymore and the crunch was they wanted 100 quid to renew his ticket . So I cancelled his ticket leaving me to sit where I had for years knowing everyone sat there. I was informed by the club I couldn't sit there as I didn't have children with me anymore. I informed them that most of them around me didn't have children as they had grown up and moved on ,leaving their parents. I was asked for seat numbers ,which I replied . Go forth and multiply and cancelled mine also. I e mailed the CEO 3 years ago and am still waiting for a reply. I have paid on the gate roughly 10 times in the last 3 seasons . So in all this shithousery I feel quite fortunate.
I've always said I'll support the club, so long as those running it, have its best interests at heart. So, when we sell a player, I get it, if the buying club are trebling our former player's wages, or he'll be playing in front of 35000 fans, or if the transfer fee was too good to turn down. I don't love it, but I get it - that's the reality of supporting Barnsley, and not Geordie Arabia, or Moneycheatster City. I accept that not all the decisions the owners make, will be the right ones. You can replace Big Val with Schopp, and I'll still go. You can sign George Moncur as the heir apparent to Hourihane, and I'll still go - so long as you did it, or can convince me that you did it, with the progress of the team, or the club, as your first thought. But, when I start to feel that the team, or club, are no longer the priority - well, giving you my money, might no longer be my priority next April, or whenever it is. We'll see.
When they took over an appointed Morais and we went down - I didnt blame them When they sold Brad Potts and Bradshaw - one per window not happy but wasnt surprised. When we sold Pinnock and lost Davies and Lyndsay I wasnt happy but didnt blame the club Less impressed with the sale of Kieffer but still gave them the benefit of the doubt Unhappy with the treatment of Stendell but still ... Renewed last season when we couldnt go But the last few months Losing Val - disappointed but OK - letting the CEO go with no plan for replacement seems down right negligent - now wondering if he had upset them by prioritising on the pitch success rather than the player factory - I mean Dike cost a fortune we probably wouldn't have got to the playoffs without him think of the money that would have saved Then the fact that the entire backroom staff from coaches physios even groundsmen have all legged it makes me wonder whats going on. Now we find that they havent been straight with us over the £750,000 taken from the clubs operating budget add that to the treatment of us in the West Stand and I am reaching last straw proportions
Think that may be a big part of it. All my adult life my weekends in the football season have been taken up by following the reds. Some seasons that's ment 35+ games with away trips, one season I actually did all 46. At the time (lockdown)I really missed going but now it just feels like a total waste of my precious time away from work. I feel like our owners don't have any thought for the fans at all. The treatment of the West stand supporters had been disgusting. The comments from the CEO last week are probably some of the most demoralising I have ever heard. I'll give him 10/10 for honesty but I can't believe he said it. I just thought what on earth am i doing giving my time and money to this.
Tbf the family stand is meant for those with young children. Once they want to stop going or sit elsewhere with their mates then it makes sense to relinquish the seats for the next wave of young families.
I have always thought that being a fan was like being on a roller coaster , disappointing times followed by good times but what ever happens your love & loyalty for the club is unconditional , however the west stand fiasco & the lies from our owners are seriously testing my faith , I have never felt this low regarding the club, apathy has well & truly set in for me , I didn"t want to go yesterday but went , I went because I go with my Grandkids & its quality time we have together & I am also responsible for these lads who are now grown up having the same affiliation that I have had for six decades but the truth is when I walked out after the match I felt nothing , before recent events I would eat sleep & drink everything about the club & apart from my family would be the next biggest thing in my life but now I could walk away & I never ever thought I would say that , my wife of 49 years has strict instructions to spread my ashes at Oakwell & that will not change but this season could well be my last, I will see the season out & discuss it with my lads in the summer & their thoughts will influence my decision but if it was me only then I think I would call it a day , we will see .
Bearing in mind the title of this thread it's interesting there wasn't a single BFC caller on Football Heaven tonight. I don't know whether that was an editorial decision or simply that the apathy has well and truly set in.
That’s a really good point as far as the Former Weststanders are concerned. I suspect the Club gave no thought to the value and importance of who you have around you. People who you get to know over the years and share the many terrible and few good times. It’s a big deal and you can bet they never gave it a thought. “Here have these crap seats in the rest of the ground, and be grateful.” Well, bo||ocks to that for a game of soldiers.
That’s possibly the most heartfelt post I’ve ever read on here. It should be compulsory reading for the owners/CEO.
