I asked the question 'Maybe turning a new leaf?'. Why are you replying to me as if I've made a statement that they have turned over a new leaf? That question was also mainly aimed at the new CEO after his buzz words about being transparent and communicating rather than the owners. If he can shut the West Stand without consultation he can put out his own statement too.
Mowatt was our best player & captain & Dike & Morris were what came in & changed us from been a mid table side to a top 6 side. Anderson been out all season up to Saturday too. 4 of best 7 players from last season not been here plus complete upheaval behind the scenes & new players not been ready for a side that used to grind wins out by a single goal meant there was always a good chance it could go the other way.
Bearing in mind the fact that Schopp seemed to use a tombola to pick the team, I think it would be considerably more noticeable if we were unchanged. Although despite the improved performance on Saturday, I'm not absolutely convinced that we should be giving 6-1-3 another airing.
I'm not having a go, you're a BFC fan like me. Just the way I read it. If I misinterpreted and you want an apology for my misinterpretation I apologise.
No apology needed at all. Was just asking how you went from me posing a question, to me making a statement and being easily appeased, forgiving, optimistic (definitely true on the latter mind). There was a question mark on the end so I'm in the clear on the grammar for this one!
Definitely. I was buzzing when we appointed Spackman, but my optician in Sheffield told me immediately that we'd been sold a dud, as he'd been reliably told that it was actually Willie Donachie who was the key to his success at Bramall Lane. My optician was hugely knowledgeable about local football and a top bloke despite being a Wednesday fan. Turns out that he was probably right.
Probably me being so anti-board these days I see any chink of potential good-will towards them and I get red mist! P.s. Anyway this sub-chat is now deflecting from the thread......Ill say no more...
There’s more to a successful ‘team’ than the blokes on the pitch. I’d argue that Murray, the sports scientist and the CEO were all as big a loss as Dike. Schopp may have convinced a board that he had the perfect plan to achieve their aim, but even if he did know what he was doing, he was hamstrung from the beginning.
It's a pity he wasn't doing Trevor Kettle's glasses.... not only would the tw** have been able to see straight he'd have learnt something about football.
Maybe. But that also acts as a reason to come to Barnsley. No decent coach with options will come to Barnsley if the board wield the axe all the time after 10 games.
I think its fairly clear that the statement is the outcome of some form of termination settlement, as there wouldn't be quotes from both sides within it if it was a unilateral decision by one party. Ultimately, its an agreed statement that both were content with. So it has at least been "done right" in terms of treating Schopp fairly. Timing wise, it should have happened after the Millwall game, and we've sacrificed an international break and 4 games in delaying it until now. Given our situation, they may prove critical at the end of the season. The next 2 games are so critical to our season that going into them with a caretaker is still a better prospect than doing yet more of the same thing, but we could so easily have been going into these games with a new coach firmly in place if the glaringly obvious decision had been made at the point where it became glaringly obvious to pretty much everyone.
Well to be honest that is correct, Schopp was employed by the club same as all the staff , not sure why it should be any different & it cuts two ways , the profit from Vals compo would go into the clubs coffers
Wouldn`t surprise me if the meeting is all abart the transparent one telling the crowd how " we listened to the fans and made the decision to part ways with Markus", followed by loads of questions on new managers and all other sorts of fripperies to run the time out of the meeting.
In many situations it's right and proper that the board take the fans' opinions on board. I'm not quite sure how far that should extend to managerial hiring and firing, however. I'm not talking about Schopp in particular by the way, it's more a general comment.
Listening to Tykes TV iy seems there may be serious questions to be asked about the academy funding and staffing.
It was about halfway. Because his English was better so he did more interviews I think the assumption was he was more pivotal than he actually was.
If the owners aren't willing to spend on transfer funds then the academy needs to function. Since Mr Stones we've not actually brought anyone through from nipper to teenager. We do have quite a churn, which seems to be the norm in most academies. I'm torn on this approach, because you're not allowing kids the chance to develop physically or mentally. So many kids now have been attached to multiple clubs by the time they've reached pubity. Not having stability isn't great for all parties including the child's parents.
