Sorry to be adding a negative after a win but hes turned into a liability. Assist fir their goal, sauntering around, selfish demeanor, not a leader, 50% effort level, shocking set piece delivery, just play a midfield player until Morris is fit ffs, sick of seeing him on the half way line passing the ball back or to the opposition. Pleased we hung on for the win but the team needs a shake up starting with change of captain.
The fella next to me spent most of the game berating Woodrow for much the same reasons. Devil's advocate - what if Cauley playing deeper was the tactical 'tweak' Laumann referred to before the game? It looked that way to me. I don't think his cause was helped by being booked in the first half, and I thought as he backed out of a couple of later challenges that may have played a part. I agree it wasn't his best game and I also thought during the 2nd half it would probably be better to bring on a midfielder to replace him, but I think you're being a little bit too harsh. "Assist for the first goal" is OTT, and did he take any set pieces other than a poor free kick in first half? My eyesight might just be crap, but I thought Benson took the corners, and of course Brittain delivered the free kick that we won the game from.
All about opinions but i think he's been a shadow of himself this season and probably guilty of hiding from a goalscoring point of view.
Not worth engaging with anyone who says that Woodrow doesn’t try. He works hard. Not much is coming off for him but if never question his effort.
Disagree with plenty of that. But the effort comment is laughable. Joint top scorer this season isn’t he?
The free kick that Styles won should've been Styles or Benson, last few games Woodrow has taken almost every corner & free kick and we've scored nothing, Mowatt is a big miss but letting Woodrow take every set piece has cost us. He played Derby onside then let Lawrence turn him in the box too easily, they nearly snatched an equaliser at the death cos he wasn't switched on at the back post. If we want someone to pick up the ball on he half way line and defend better, pick a midfield player...
He plays like he has the whole weight of the Club on his shoulders, but then again, he has. He’s clearly not playing at his best but he never hides, his work rate is phenomenal and I think he’ll come good - by staying in the side.
No, he actually didn't. I'd love Cauley to get back to his best, but tonight's as poor as I've seen him.
I cant criticise his work rate tonight, kept going and was dead on his feet at the end. He shouldn't be captain though. He's not vocal enough, Not his fault though he's not going to refuse the armband. It should be Helik or Mads for me. Dropping deep isn't doing his game any favours either, he needs to be in the box getting on the end of chances. Not coming between our centre backs to get the ball. Dropping him would be harsh- he's only doing what's asked of him
I don't think he should be taking corners and free kicks either, but seemingly neither does Laumann, cos he didn't tonight. Given he scored a direct free kick a few weeks back I don't think we can complain that he had a go at that. So that point's addressed. Like I said, I could see a case for bringing on a midfielder to replace him 2nd half. But realistically that's Palmer, maybe pushing Benson higher, it's not a direct replacement. Even dropping deeper, he's offering a natural instinct to run into the box and cause a threat, which he did. For me he's not undroppable, but nor is he playing so poorly (or anyone else is pushing hard enough) that it's inevitable - or indeed worth raising after an improved performance and a win that he's contributed to. And as others have said, to criticise his work rate and effort totally undermines your point. He works as hard as anyone on the field.
Woodrow sauntered through the middle second half just after we'd scored and delayed and delayed a simple ball for Iseka. It was easy to play him in. I'd drop him because he gets bounced off the ball easily and can't hold it up.
He’s been terrible for a long time now. I got a lot of stick last season for criticising him. Need a coach with balls to drop him. Forever giving ball or taking wrong option. Don’t get all the Woodrow loving. Just because he was good for us once upon a time,
