Big praise again from me. Yes he has his limitations, but as I’ve said before, he gives defenders a hard time. His goal took a huge deflection, but he tried it. He changed the game. Would have brought either of the other two off ahead of him just because he holds it up and we were ahead. Good lad Victor.
I agree he did really well, and delighted for him to get a goal. I think with the change, we'd had a decent spell beforehand and looked like we could get in behind them on the break. Given their centre backs were Jagielka and Davies, I can see the logic in bringing Cole on to try and stretch them with pace. That being the case I can see why it was Victor and not Iseka that made way, and Woodrow was performing a different role playing much deeper. I don't think it particularly worked as we ended up under the cosh, but I can certainly see why the coach saw it that way.
Do all goals get reviewed ? If so it will be taken off him ? ball looked to be going across the goal wondered how it had gone in from there in real time.
Can't knock Victor for effort and so pleased for him that he scored. Not the the most technically gifted but gives his all. Not sure that enough a championship level though.
Glad he got the goal and hope it does his confidence a world of good.. but don't let that mask the fact until that point his first half showing was dreadful. Still, hopefully he gets some confidence if he plays again on saturday so that he can control a ball and do some of the simpler things a little better. Personally it doesnt fill me with excitement and expectation when i see his name on the teamsheet though.. quite the opposite really.
I was over the moon for Victor last night. He always gives his all and does give defenders a torrid time with his strength. Not the most most prolific of course but he has his own strengths. I think he's improving.
The lad works hard and it’s hard not to like him, but a striker? Not for me I’m afraid. And I say that with no malice.
Was pleased for the lad but as much as I want him to kick on after that IMO the reality is he won’t . Said it after almost every goal he’s scored which tbh isn’t many that I hope he kicks on but then he just reverts back to being unfamiliar with the ball when it comes to him . After he scored at Derby last season Val went on a massive confidence booster for him to no avail. His enthusiasm and work rate are second to none but unfortunately imo a regular championship player he’s not .
I was worried about that & checked first thing this morning. It would have been well tight to take it off him..
During the first half last night my son commented how hard he was working, even more so than usual. I thought the entire team looked more energetic last night but Vic set an example from the off. Re his goal, I felt it was massively important. Equalising before HT was a big deal imo and gave the team a lift. Despite going behind I didn't feel we were going to lose but Vic's goal gave us the belief to go on and win it. Wasn't it nice to hear the Ponty singing the Adeboyejo song afterwards too and meaning it? Unlike a few weeks ago when I felt it was sung ironically. Well done Vic, now go and get another on Saturday!
I like him, a lot, but I think most teams would struggle to win a lot of games with him up front in this league as I don't think he scores or creates enough and his control is suspect. That sounds incredibly harsh and I don't mean it to be because, as I said, I like him, I just think Championship is a division too high for him to make enough impact. I'd be delighted to be proved wrong I genuinely would.
He worked his socks off last night, often using his physical strength to beat defenders and he was always asking for the ball to played towards him or in behind for him to use is pace. Excellent performance from a good honest player, more please Vic. As others say, his goal lifted the whole team just when we needed it. Bit scary at the end but the defence put their bodies in the way and repeatedly got the ball away in the nick of time. A well deserved and desperately needed win. I have no fingernails now
He often flatters to deceive when he starts, but as others have said you can’t fault his effort and commitment. I do think he looks a decent option when he comes off the bench though. If we’re trying to win / save a game he definitely causes headaches for tired defenders, especially if we go a bit more direct, as teams tend to naturally do when they are chasing. Anyway, well chuffed for him. One in the eye for the boo boys.
Pleased for him. Big Val wouldn't have played him if he thought he offered nothing. Admittedly we were in the 5 subs era & he rarely played more than 45 mins at max. The truth is he made the difference tonight. Must be hard lacing your boots having scored zero in 38 games. I salute him for still being positive & giving his all. When we have our best all round striker back, (Morris), he may only feature off the bench, but credit where it is due for last night. I hope he can bag another vs Hull, he deserves it for his effort.
By any measure his contribution to the team last night was better then Woodrows, anyone saying otherwise is coloured by what Woodrow has done in the past
