Back in the early 2000s. True story.. The team, management, supporters, opposition.. in fact, the whole footballing world- made a collective error of believing we were playing Forest away.?! Made me look a right prat..
Reminds me of when I booked a day off work to buy tickets for 2006 Play-Off Final with Swansea. I got to Oakwell at 7am and was told by a bloke walking his dog I was a day early.
When my brother was in the forces in Germany, I went back with him to spend some time on the base during my holiday from college. We drove via Zandvoort to watch the Grand Prix. Instead we stood in the rain looking over an empty track, as we were a week early.
Mate at work. (and his mate) Arrived at the airport (Manchester)to go on holiday. Checked the departures board and it didn’t appear. Made enquiries and he was a day early. Better than a day late I suppose.
I went to the oval for a test match with 2 of my lads and my best mate who had travelled down from Wombwell. We got in the ground ok took our seats only to be turfed out by the real ticket holders. We were escorted out of the ground by a steward as we had tickets for the Sunday rather than the Saturday. We finished up buying tickets from a tout. One of my sons went back with the tickets the next day and sold the other 3 to a tout for well below face value.
At uni in Sheffield in 89-91 ish, I went to a night match at Oakwell and got as far as Oakwell Lane before I realised there was nobody around and the floodlights were off. The game had been cancelled in the day (weather), but I hadn't seen the TV news and didn't have the internet in those days.
We usually take our seats in the East Upper about 30 minutes before kick-off and it's always a bit weird watching the Ponty end fill up. Nothing happens for ages, then at 2.55, just as I say to my son, "Looks like a poor crowd today", they all suddenly appear. It's as if they've all teleported in.
You can't move under the Ponte concourse between 2:50 and 3pm. I take my seat as soon as I hear the pre-coocoon music (I can't remember for the life of me what it is though).
Once got in car to set off to Oakwell at 2pm for a bank Holiday game. only to hear on RS that the second half was just kicking off and we were losing. Game had kicked off at 1pm
