Yes they've moved it and officially unveiled it this week.

Brilliant tribute, I'll have a look at it tomorrow. I hadn't realised till just now (thanks to google) that Barry also wrote the drama documentary "Threads" which was about a nuclear attack on Sheffield. Chilled me to the bone at the time. Very talented man.

    I never knew that.

What I did know though is that it was shown in schools around SY. I must have only missed seeing it by a few years. I have no intention of watching it now.

It's seems such a waste having such a talented local sculptor like Graham Ibbotson that the club have never sought to honour our past greats.

It is,but it should be in Hoyland/Hoyland Common.

I respectfully disagree. Agree that he was a Hoyland lad & the school scenes and extras, were from there. It needs to be seen though & locating it in the town centre makes more sense from that perspective.

    I think it's a fantastic tribute nevertheless.

I wouldn't have seen it unless I was in hoyland.
It was getting plenty of admiring attention this morning. Get loads of footfall where it is and hopefully remain untouched.

The school scenes were Barnsley, as were the pupils taking part. St Helen’s wasn’t it?

Yes, in Athersley. There were a lot of extras from Hoyland though & some scenes were shot there. Splitting hairs TBH. My thoughts are we need to promote the positive sides of our culture & the obvious place is in the town centre. You don't see a Picasso museum in the suburbs. (Waiting on someone saying he was born in Malaga, with no knowledge of the civil war).

I'm passionate about horror movies, and would say I've seen virtually every major and most minor British/US horror films that have been made and released. None of them scared me as Threads did though. We had to watch it in English class at Holgate, and it really affected me. I watched it again a few months ago, and it's still as good to this day...

I’m sure the town centre is the right place for it. Dickie Bird’s statue ought to be moved there as well. I just hope the low-lifes leave this new piece of art alone.

I went to Holgate & saw it. Bloody scary & rightly so. Was during the Reagan / Thatcher era. A Kestral for a Knave was also on our reading list.

Did Sheffield become a zombie infested waste-land?

I think we watched Threads while reading A Kestral for a Knave, to expand our knowledge of Barry's work...

Who would you select? Too many and it dilutes the effect.
Maybe a montage of heroes down the years?
The Rev, Tufnell, Amos the Donkey. Where would you site it?

I refrained from a similar comment because the thread is about a memorial but I can't argue with your logic.
