I re-watched the "Age Of Stupid" last night. Presented / acted by the late Pete Postlethwaite. Think it was originally aired in 2009 & is a harrowing watch at times. (Not selling it am I?). The upper middle class ******* that were opposing the guy's wind farm need burning at the stake. The rest of us need to look long and hard at how we have all been living. I'm 56 and very unlikely to make more than 6 score years and 10, but feel for my nephew & niece and my friend's kids. Global extinction is not a new concept. Hope this cheers you all up as we speculate on the new BFC managerial appointment. No need to thank me.
Not seen that mate but I did see "Idiocracy", was it similar? Edit just read a precis, it reminds me of when I worked at Scunny in 2015. I was out cycling near the river Trent and went down a road adorned with loads of posters campaigning against wind farms. I happened to look at my phone which was running a cycling app showing my current elevation. I was 10 feet below mean sea level. It occurred to me that this road would be one of the first in the UK to be in undated when the sea level starts rising. Turkeys and Christmas came to mind....
Blimey "6 score years and 10"... I would be well happy to make it to 130 years mate depending on my state of health!
Thought for the day... As the media obsess with 'saving the planet' (which of course is a nonsense as the planet will be fine it is just we stupid humans that will be decimated taking with much of the flora and fauna we co-exist with), I recently watched a sci-fi romp called 'Kingsman'. In it , Samuel L Jackson plays a billionaire with an 'evil' plan to wipe out a large proportion of the World population using a mobile phone chip that when the network is triggered emits a signal that makes people violent, lose all inhibitions and turns everyone against each other. He does this as he is convinced that the whole plan to reduce climate change via green energy is a complete waste of time and drastic measures are needed. Unlike Thanos' 50% plan in the Marvel universe though, his selection methods are not random or egalitarian. The rich , privileged and powerful , many of whom have bought into his plan are the ones he considers will 'inherit the Earth. A sequel followed a similar sub plot where, rather than stopping the plan of a maniacal blackmailing drug supplier to kill billions having 'spiked' the World's drug supply with a slow acting poison (only she has the antidote) the US president decides to play along with the blackmailer whilst secretly intending to do nothing and " rid the planet of all the criminals" (his view of all drug users recreationl or otherwise) at the same time solve global warming with the subsequent decimation of the population. Whilst they are all works of fiction, scarily there may be a grain of truth in that the only way to save humanity is if humanity suffers a massive reduction in population numbers. In any event, at some point nature will probably do the job for us.
