Nobody likes to lose a game, that is fairly obvious. But I'm slowly falling into a state of apathy when it comes to the team and the results. I have watched the reds from being 5 years old, so 28 years of ups and downs, highs and lows. I could accept the losses before as the team, by and large, always fought. This team does not fight. I also have massive issues with the ownership of the club, they patently do not care about the club, and certainly don't care about the fans, that much is obvious. In a long winded way, I watch the games and see the scores online when we play away and whereas before I would be upset at a loss and be down about it, I now find myself not being bothered, which really upsets me. The soul has been systematically extracted from our club by these total conmen incharge of us, this has filtered onto the pitch, into the stands and the stadium as a whole. It just feels like the club is dying a slow death and the folk at the top couldn't care less. That being said, I hope Poya and Ferran can, at the very least, get the team playing with a bit of pride. Win, lose or draw, all I ask for as a fan is 100% effort for that shirt and the club, at the minute we're getting considerably less than that.
Have a read of some other fans forums to put things into perspective! Does seem ironic that our best season since Bassett 's was one where we couldn't even enjoy at Oakwell.
I don’t remember seeing many posts about our evil owners last season. It’s funny how the heart and soul of the club is only being hollowed out when we’re losing.
But the owners have done this for themselves. They regarded last season as disappointing because no bids came in for our players. IMHO it ranks the 3rd best season after the Prem, and Play-off defeat v Ipswich (I was too young to remember the cup win no matter what BigLil says!) Statements like that are not what fans want to hear. It makes us wonder what their motives are for owning us. If we are just a farm for young players who will disappear as soon as a decent bid comes in, then they are surely going to crush the dreams that we have of possible promotion. No matter who you support be it Liverpool or Worsboro' Bridge, you have to hope for some success. I was hoping that if not challenging again this season, we would at least be comfortably mid-table. Hopefully that will be achieved under the new team.
Things changed in the summer. As well as the manager and captain, so many backroom staff left. The result? No one at the club knew anything about football. We were left with investment bankers following a spreadsheet and young lads following no one. No training, no fitness regime, no leadership. Without direction the team ceased to function, players become demoralised and became shadow of their former self. Leadership and a vision might save us. The spreadsheet won’t. Place your bets on which way we go…
Well, for me it was the fourth best season whilst I''ve been watching us (the three you've mentioned, but also the promotion winning season the the Premier League). And WE WERE at the 1912 Cup Final! However, I agree with everything else you've said.
Its weird how you get out of the habit, I won't put any money into this buiseness until young James buys the club . I've not had a season ticket for 3 seasons my only 2 games I've attended was Coventry and Luton . I've watched every game on the TV. I switched the TV off at 3 0 yesterday and went to play snooker. I'm past losing sleep over the club I've followed for 50 years. I'm sure I'm not alone ,and as the OP says apathy is setting in and many fans are excepting were a club in freefall again which is a real shame we couldn't build on the success of last season. The owners are coming in for criticism as there so distanced from the fans. At least the fans knew Patrick cared about the club he loved.
