Well, wine really. Me and Mrs Statis out for a drink - I have a pint, she has a glass of wine. I take a drink and after a few minutes notice that Mrs Statis has necked half her glass. Over time I catch up and as I’m at the end of the pint, Mrs Statis has about 0.5cm of wine left. She can make this last for hours even though she has regular sips at it. The last 0.0005 cm of wine could last all eternity. I reckon she’s spitting wine back into the glass. I’ve noticed other women do this. I suspect they don’t want to get the next round in.
We do for all stuff to do with house, car, bills food etc. But for socialising we use our own accounts.
That's interesting (sorry, sidetracking a bit here!). You ask that like it's the expected thing. Me and my wife don't have joint accounts, are we in the minority? We've never even considered it!
My missus does the same. The first massive gulp is just to get her tipsy enough to put up with my conversation for the next two hours. After that, she's drinking at a normal pace. "Did I ever tell you about the time I saw Paul McGugan score..."
Yeah I sort of do think it's expected - though I know many don't. I suppose some people want to keep some level of independence even in a strong relationship, I just think if you're fully committed there's no reason not to. My wife kept her own account at first, but we went all into one account when we got an all-in-one current account/mortgage - that way everything in the current account saved interest on the mortgage. We don't even think about it now.
Its entirely down to personal choice I have no idea what the percentages are for and against joint accounts we have one and it works for us but I can see why some people wouldnt want one
Had joint account and savings accounts for most of the money but personal accounts for our own spends.
We've had one for over thirty seven years. It suits us perfectly, but as you say, that doesn't apply to others.
I've had joint accounts with 2 different wives and 2 different girlfriends over 45 years, and indeed I still have a joint account with my ex-wife even though we've been divorced for 20 years, as we have property together. I've never ever thought we should separate our money, we've always worked on the principle "I earn it, she spends it".
