The smoothest transition forward are the Crynes taking control of the club and bringing the ground back into ownership of BFC. ConLee won't spend anymore, maybe not even what they've agreed. BMBC shouldn't be footing the bill given their swingeing centralised cuts and the Crynes shouldn't be while there is legal dispute. It's a mess.
Most council tax payers would be up in arms if their money was spent on the football club. I'm a passionate fan but it's not the best use of extremely limited resources.
This. Money is about money and nothing else. History, community, football mean nothing at all. Destroy the club? Alienate the fans? So what? Pocket your brass and you’re gone. Job done.
Regarding any ground share/franchise talk... I thought following the Wimbledon mess the FA introduced rules preventing a club moving from their town/city or origin unless it was a temporary measure? I may have dreamt that though!
Hillsborough is 15 minutes from me, and hence very convenient for me to get to. You can assume I won't be setting foot in the rusting sh¹th⁰le to watch Barnsley play home games. I won't watch us play home matches in Sheffield. Sooner the club die, than the humiliation of being deedar cuckoos. I can just imagine der massev Wensdeh chants, riffing off Feed The Dingles. A fųčķīňğ horrible thought.
Helen no Barnsley fan would travel anywhere to watch the reds apart from Oakwell or a new ground in town at a push.Thats why I think its lazy journalism. It mentions the club contacted Bradford earlier on in the year,so why as it took all this time to go to press?
Also - nobody give him Boothys number, if you look on Google earth I reckon someone still cuts the grass at milmoor
All Rotherham fans I know knew we'd approached them about a groundshare so it's not that far fetched to me. The question is why, we know its a really low rent, there were no fans in so why did they do that?
I don’t believe this is about relocating the club permanently. All I see is Conway and co securing somewhere to play until all the legal issues are resolved a la Coventry City. Even if it is Conway playing games, it makes no sense to move the club away from the town permanently, and I see nothing in these reports to suggest this would be the case. The EFL will never sanction a move again after what happened with Wimbledon either.
Just a point on the article about information , it concluded by saying we are playing at home tonight , not a right good source me thinks but you have excuse the YP , if the news is not about Leeds then it is just column filling .
Thats why I don't believe it.If you recall one week it was Rotherham, next week it was Wigan I think even Bury and S6 were even mentioned.I honestly believe its a no story but it's filled some paper space. All I ask for is a statement from BFC,the Cryne family and the council to let us know the state of play.
Its ok having a joke about moving to Birmingham or Bradford as some have done but it's not very funny really. Its soul destroying. Barnsley FCs place is at Oakwell. Its history is there. The memories are there. Even people's ashes are there. Its a heartbeat from St Peter's and that too is part of the symbolism of the location. Unless it becomes physically impossible to stay BFC should, no question, remain at Oakwell. The mere fact that anything else is being contemplated or touted is extremely concerning. The board should categorically denounce these rumours as false and state that they will not under any circumstances leave Oakwell. Guess what though? They wont.
