Trouble is im thinking who and about the shape....mmmm maybe shove Brittain right mid .....put williams r back and bring Vita in at left back. Do you know what?... i just dont know! We need experience and or application and effort. I just hope saturday wont be embarrassing...i do believe our new coach has a proper job on.
And we've just appointed more inexperience There's not much time for a learning curve. Couldn't really see what he was like on the touchline, was he giving orders?
I was working late ...so watched it on iptv...so sorr cant tell you. He did look very studious...but then again he has a lot to think about!
Yes he was quite animated, pointing, calling players over during breaks, and at one point he strayed 20 yards up the touchline from his technical area.
I liked him in his first few games before he got Covid & then got an injury but the version we’ve seen since he came back is nowhere near as good. Doesn’t deserve a start currently

A waste of a wage. Doesn't want to be here and who can blame him? The owners don't care, the fans are losing faith. Why should the players care?
I dont like this narrative from some of us on here that the players dont care and cant be bothered. That is patently untrue and they tried very hard last night to implement a new plan. I can fault them for many things but lack of effort is not one of them
Not one of them broke sweat last night mate. Truly appalling to see 10 players walking around the pitch to attempt to get the ball back. 20% possession for a home game, half of that was kicking the ball back to Swansea
Agreed. Current echoes of the past in our squad: Josh Benson - George Moncur Jasper Moon - Paul Digby Obbi Oulare - Kayode Odejayi Devante Cole - Devante Cole.
I only saw the game on the red button but I didn't think the players were not trying. the reason for 20% possession was our total inability to pass to a red shirt along with us letting swansea pass the ball about at the back so my concern wasnt the lack of effort you seemed to see but lack of ability which is a bit strange as that wasnt a problem last season. I also think we miss Mowatt far more than most of us thought we would
I was there and watched in person last night and it was the most bizarre performance by a Barnsley team for many a year. It's not lack of ability, as we all know it's there. It was this total lack of trying to get the ball back. Just walking around, then when we got the ball just lumping it back. If you don't try and get the ball back and don't try and do something positive, the best result to hope for is a 0.0 We need wins and unfortunately I don't see many coming with this system.
Oh I agree we wont win many playing like that. but we have to start somewhere. I thought without the ball we did OK at least we werent getting carved open like we have most games this season. It was what we did when we got the ball that has me worried
Better teams will carve us open. Swansea were content to just pass it around the back for 3 minutes. Too many gaps between forward line, midfield line(s) and back 4. Good teams will exploit those gaps for sure
I think Benson needs someone with a little know how to play alongside. The ability is there but he needs to learn that you have to work hard to show that ability. At the minute he has no one to guide him and aid his development which is pretty unfair on him. If we aren’t able to supply that experience in January then a loan to a club that can would be the best thing. in addition Josh needs to look inside himself in the way that Moncur couldn’t but Mowatt and Conor could. He needs to want to grow and become the ‘main man’.
It’s sometimes difficult to define effort. What I saw was a squad happy to let them have the ball for as long as they wanted. There was no desire whatsoever from them to regain possession. Zero pressure. In the space of 20 games we’ve gone from the highest intensity pressing in the Championship to zero press. It’s easy to see how that can be seen as no effort. Add to that, absolutely abysmal - and I mean non-league abysmal - composure in possession. I’ve really struggled to take any positives from last night. Based on what I’ve seen over 20 games, we’re well on the road to going down without laying a glove.
I don't think it was a lack of effort. Looked like a team totally devoid of any confidence, and more concerned with making sure they were in vaguely the right position, and forgot that at some point we would need the ball. But with the ball. Wow. Sometimes they'll get pressured and go long, and we don't hold it up. I get that. But the one time flicks, blind passes across. There was one time, Brittain got the ball, had two or three players in space ahead of him, and he did a stupid flick to a centre half. Benson's blind pass across the pitch. I think Poya's idea was to frustrate them and sit off and play on the counter, but would've expected us to be up to around 30% possession with a bit more quality on the ball. Looked like a lot of short cuts taken because they weren't confident of playing a proper pass. PA's biggest task now, I think, is to get players' heads out of their backsides. And Woodrow. Good lord, stop acting like a spoilt teenager. If you're not happy with a decision, just get on with it, and then get in the ref's ear when there's a break in play. Same for Palmer. Don't stand on the edge of the box asking for a free kick, while they pass it through where you should be, and go onto score.
Yep, I’ve just come to the conclusion that certain posters on here can’t or won’t accept there is a world of difference between lack of effort and playing poorly/ ineffective. Giving your all and just simply not playing well are seemingly lost on some posters
