Of all the crappiness that happened during the summer the decision to send out Kane on loan ranks near the top. With Mowatt gone he was the most experienced mid we had left and all we brought in as replacements was a couple of young lads, one of which was a loan who had yet to make a first team appearance. Just hoping that we can get him back in January because that, coupled with praying that we retain all our main players are the only straws left for me to cling onto.
We’ll be too far adrift to justify recalling him. Would be better for him to finish the season at Oxford and hopefully come back for us in league 1. Though it wouldn’t be a surprise if his was one of the salaries the club would want to get off the books after relegation
Letting Solbauer, our most credible captain, leave also looks a disaster in retrospect. Jasper Moon should still be cleaning his boots. I’m also convinced Connor Chaplin would have only improved on the forward line we’ve put out most of the season. But sometimes players want to leave, and it’s very difficult to keep them against their will.
I think Kane's an example of a player that's got better now he isn't here. Whilst he was here he didn't pull up any trees. He's no Mowatt.
I agree with this. Donny fans loved him but he didn't really show much in a Barnsley shirt for whatever reason.
I disagree, I think it was a good move, particularly if we didn't intend on playing him regularly. He's struggled with injuries since his time on loan at Hull, and every time he got a run of games, he seems to pick up a knock. Oxford appear to have got him fit, and playing regularly. If we we bring him back in January, we might actually get the Herbie Kane who was the all action box to box player that Doncaster had. He's well under contract here, so it was only ever likely to be a move so that we could get him firing, without him taking up a place in our midfield to do it.
This. Saw nothing in him to make me think he'd improve us this season. I did say the same about Mowatt though so hopefully I'm proved wrong again...
Yes Kane came up a little short last season and will not be the complete answer to our midfield shortcomings but he would be a big improvement on what we currently have
Kane changed the game against Bournemouth as a sub for second half and then didn't get a start next match there's talent there but never given a chance altho niggling injuries didn't help....just like mowett who got shipped out.. .kanes a dam site better than Palmer altho my missus is more mobile than Palmer at 70
Said this before,Kane played in under 23 game just before they loaned him,was outplayed by young lad ,came off at half time,he is not our messiah
I think some players get progressively better, the further they are away from the Starting Eleven: Substitute's Bench, Physio's Table, Not in the Squad, Out on Loan and Left the Club.
If he did come back in January, he'll probably be the fittest player at the club, having not been at a shambles of a club for a few months.
