Has just been published. Be interesting to see how much of the recommendations get implemented. I hear that they are recommending Supporters Trusts get a golden share and veto on issues like moving grounds as well as a fan led shadow board Highlights: A golden share, held by supporters, that could veto certain key changes in a football club – from changing the name to selling the ground. • Shadow boards made up of fans who must be consulted by clubs on key decisions. • Limits on the amount of money owners can put into a club, to prevent unsustainable practices and stop the distortion of competition, set according to the size of a club’s existing finances. • A reappraisal of parachute payments to be determined between the Premier League and Football League – and, if there is no solution, by the regulator. • Compulsory relegation and promotion clauses in players’ contracts. Compulsory equality, diversity and inclusion plans for every club, building on the success of the Football Association’s leadership diversity code and the Premier League EDI standard. • A review into the future of the women’s game. • Trials to allow the consumption of alcohol while watching a match.
Can you explain more about the promotion and relegation clause please? Why does it need to be compulsory?
I thought this was just about Barnsley for a moment, which made some of the suggestions seem a little odd. Something needs to change, because the heart and soul is disappearing from the beautiful game.
OK, makes sense I suppose but if you have one player who gave their all in a relegation season I don't see why they should automatically have to take a pay cut. Also, in Derby 's case, how is it the players fault if they get relegated after a 21 point deduction?
Trying to get clubs to live within their means and create a level playing field. Think it goes hand in hand with reforming the parachute payments
Our Owners have already implemented the first 12 words of the 2nd Bullet. I think they might struggle with some of the others though.
That may make things at Oakwell more bearable this season, especially if you put the word "Heavy" before "Consumption".
Personally I think it's all posturing, no matter how well intentioned it is. Money men, will always have the power. Fact of life
Everything in that sounds bang on the money. So no chance of it being implemented then unless the government forces it through.
There was a similar thing happened in the 90s under David Mellor with similar recommendations and thats what happened then so wouldn’t surprise me.
If anyone wants a more detailed look https://thefsa.org.uk/news/fan-led-review-is-a-huge-step-forward/
Another set of unsustainable ideas to over complicate a simple game, but dont worry all the fans who now demand instant success can have whip round.
Like what? It's not planning on changing how the game is played. It's just trying to ensure the game has better governance. You know so grass roots football gets some investment, so states with atrocious human rights records can't easily own football clubs, so owners <cough> can't just up and relocate a football club, so there's a more level playing field with regards money, so clubs cant just spend beyond their means and change the rules to suit, so the welfare of young players is better addressed etc etc. Is that complicating a simple game?
1st then we stop trading with the Saudis,China etc.2nd most clubs overspend due to fan pressure and 3rd can you honestly say that relocating to another town or city is beneficial to owners
1.Yes 2. Not sure I believe that 3. The motivation is irrelevant. Should the fans have a say in that? I believe so. You didn’t answer the question about how this is complicating a simple game
Absolutely pointless, for reasons others say also it’s a global game. Unless FIFA install world governance across the board you will just end up with players and money moving to other leagues
Early days and as you say it will be interesting to see how much gets implemented and how the Premier League in particular interact and cooperate with what's been suggested. Then of course there will be other obstructions and objections along the route to implementation. We will have to wait and see. It is a start though and as far as I'm aware Ms Crouch is well regarded and genuine so who knows....?
