Too late for what. Saving restaurants, tourism, construction or the lives and welfare of young people. Your probably one of the many Marxists on here with no grasp of economics or realities of life, pruning your rose from behind your mask whilst sneering at the young
All hospitality is exempt, tourism fair enough with PCRs back, not sure why having to wear a mask on the bus or in a shop is going to affect construction or the lives and welfare of young people.
Not really my point but I agree. Masks will have minimal benefit may or may not affect shopping habits. Supermarket not, high street yes I suspect. My point was that harder measures will affect those industries I until there’s data that is a greater risk we should hold our nerve.
I'm not happy about it but I'll put one on to do my food shopping and revert back to doing everything else online through Amazon. I just don't understand how it can make any sense to allow people to not wear them in crowded pubs but mandate them in shops. If the new Variant is more dangerous the these measure will do nothing.
Zero grasp of epidemiology after 20 months. No-one has even mentioned harder measures. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2...ost-effective-way-to-tackle-covid-study-finds
It's all to be seen to do something. It's futile and now gesture politics. If the varient is as transmissible as suggested then it will not be stopped short of a full lockdown. (and that won't stop it either) When restrictions were released in July there were predictions of doom and 200k cases per day with 4k deaths per week by August. Cases are high but in my opinion irrelevant. There are currently 7,633 people in hospital WITH the virus not necessarily because of the virus. There's 67m people in the UK, please consider that. I apologise to anyone who has had personal suffering from Covid, I'm only trying to put an alternative view and considering the long term consequences of the reimposition of restrictions as they are are likely to be increased over the coming weeks. After all it's gone so well for Germany and Austria.
With handwashing and social distancing and vaccines. Come on, the full story please. So unless you're implementing social distancing hand/washing and boosters then the masks are just theatre. How many people now sanatise their hands, clean the shopping trolley handles and maintain even a metre in a shop? Very few in my experience.
England has the least restrictions of anywhere in the UK but has under 6,000 in hospital with covid not because of covid for the first time in well over a month.... https://coronavirus.data.gov.uk/details/healthcare?areaType=overview&areaName=United Kingdom If masks (and vaccine passports) were the answer than places like Germany shouldn't be experiencing record daily cases on a regular basis. Here in Kirklees mask wearing has been minimal for months but out of 149 regions we are in the top 20 safest places in the country and our cases keep dropping all the time. Today we only had 169 cases from just short of 73,000 tests.... https://coronavirus.data.gov.uk/details/cases?areaType=ltla&areaName=Kirklees
They aren't difficult things to keep doing once you get into the habit. I'll be in Lidl in an hour's time doing all those things. I've kept to that time on a Saturday night as I'll have the shop virtually to myself. I suppose it's easier to keep the motivation if you have people in your life that need protecting though. I'm immunosuppressed and we look after three 80 year olds with health problems. Wearing a mask and not getting too close to people isn't a lot to ask of anyone though.
It's clear that the UK has a decent immunity built up whether it's via infection or vaccination. This accounts for the comparative low hospitalisations and deaths. If, as suspected, this mutation is different enough to cause reinfection, we could do without it spreading round again this Christmas.
Wearing a mask is a lot to ask of some people. Not being close to other humans is a lot to ask of some people. Everyone is different. I absolutely hate masks and really struggle to wear them. Nothing to do with whether they work or not I just really struggle with them to the point that I'd rather drive to two separate supermarkets so I can get away with wearing it for 5 minutes twice than 10 minutes once.
I agree, however I still don't see what the end game is. It's never going away ever. It just isn't. It will always mutate just like every other virus does. Nobody has so far given any kind of exit plan, Bozo reckons he has but he hasn't, nobody has. What is the plan for when variant Venus comes out in 18 months? Start again? How about variant Optimus Prime in 3 years time? I fully understand the need to try to protect people but there HAS t be a long term plan surely and I just haven't seen one from anyone at all
Any social distancing disappeared when masks came in sadly as the majority of people consciously or subconsciously thought that the masks made them invincible and they didn't need to do the other things. I'm certain (though can never prove it) that prioritising masks over social distancing killed people.
That couldn't be further from the truth. I was in a queue recently and overheard a conversation behind me which ended with "it's the young 'uns who are spreading it". I turned around and it was two maskless pensioners virtually nose to nose. There isn't an age group who can justifiably take the public health high ground over another.
I'd say there is. School kids. They've given up the most and made by far the most sacrifices all without any say in the matter and all largely to protect other people whilst pretty much every other age group has had a choice, has stretched the rules and has had more to lose. However I get your general point and you're right of course
