Can we just acknowledge Jimmy Viz is the best supporter on here and get on with our lives. Clearly the main reason we're crap this season is because fans have dared to voice their concerns at games in response to, paradoxically, us playing crap.
Not a new thing is it? Look at the seasons we've been ***** over the years, Dawson and shea arguing with fans giving them abuse away at Huddersfield, andy yiadom arguing with fans in the west stand, thiam, cavare brad potts all unpopular players and scapegoats who struggled to win fans over. Even this season I've watched victor get booed while coming on and ironic cheers when subbed. But to his credit he always gives 100% still which is more than can be said for some of his team mates. Some of the stick I mentioned was un deserved. But barnsley fans won't sit back and watch half hearted performances and say nothing or make comment these are professional athletes not playing at athersley rec.
People will do as they wish, but those doing so should probably be aware booing isn't going to help the vast majority of the time, especially if the same people also believe most of the issues are caused by those running the club, which presumably they do.
You're absolutely right, we should cheer on and support some of the players that aren't putting any effort in and instead just lay all the blame at the head coaches door. If you're happy with what some of those players are showing on the pitch at present then you're easily pleased. Unfortunately some are willing to accept mediocrity and will excuse the players at any opportunity. There is a lot of personal abuse out there which is completely unacceptable but why shouldn't fans be allowed to question the players efforts and attitudes without resorting to such measures?
Is shouting encouragement physically impossible when your team is playing poorly? I mean I realise it's no fun watching crap football, but being a supporter is what you make it, right?
Not all and no one has said it isn't. Where people are starting to get really pissed off is seeing players going through the motions and everything being half arsed. At some point it goes beyond the head coach. Surely the players can be questioned but without it resorting to personal abuse?
It's the fans fault we are ****? Admittedly an atmosphere can influence things, but that negative atmosphere at the moment did not start from the stands
I didn't say don't ask what's going on or state the obvious, that they're badly performing, especially compared to last year.
There’s a world of difference between slating player/s for having bad games, not rating them, saying they’ve been ineffective, but some players and one in particular, (Woodrow) is, and has been for weeks now been wrongly accused of, and been lambasted for being idle, not giving a **** and the personal abuse is disgusting. I didn’t go yesterday or watch any footage of it, so only know what I’ve read, mainly on here, but It appears to me that lately confidence is very low at the moment and what bit there is seems to drain out of the team as a whole very quickly when things go wrong on the pitch. Yes I get they are professionals, well paid etc etc, but by and large, I have not witnessed a lack of effort or being uncaring by players this season. I’m as disappointed and fed-up as the next fan about our current predicament and understand most of the criticisms whether aimed at club, players or coaches, but this undeserved constant idle, lack of effort mantra is undeserved. It seems to me that some can’t/ won’t separate this from other criticisms such as not rating a player in a certain position, and who knows probably have an agenda. I know one thing, If I ever felt that bitter and volatile towards the players as I’ve read and heard, I would stop going.
I agree. The quality of the football being served up has been very disappointing, but I have not detected any lack of effort on the part of the players. In fact, in Woodrow's case, it seems to me that he is often trying almost too hard.
Not sure why you have mentioned a certain player because he hasn't even had the most stick of fans this season. Fans are just abit confused as to how he hasn't been dropped yet and yesterday he bottled 50/50s and challenges in his favour very half hearted. Possibly doesn't want to get injured for January.
The majority of fans went into this season expecting that we might not hit the heights of last season but given how we played last season at least we'd be competitive. Sadly thanks to the boards directive on playing style an inept coach the complete lack of direction at the club over the summer because nearly everybody in management roles left, we've been left with a squad of players confused unmotivated and probably like us wondering what the hell is going on. It's not the fans fault and personal abuse of players isn't right but other than booing how else do you show your displeasure at the current state of OUR club.
Woodrow isn't trying though. He goes through the motions and is seemingly protecting himself for when he gets another club or for the next stage in his life. If he worked his ******** off and it didn't come off for him I'd have no complaints which is exactly how I see Callum Brittain or even players like Victor. However if he's strolling around, ducking when the ball goes near his head, watching he ball roll by him a few yards away etc then he deserves all the criticism he gets because it isn't acceptable. He's certainly not the only one, Palmer may as well walk round with his hands in his pockets most of the time and Benson is so lazy in his overall play that it's ridiculous. The difference is that they get dropped or taken off, Woodrow is guaranteed 90 minutes every week because he played well two years ago. That's why he gets more stick than those two and I suppose that's not his fault. He doesn't pick himself. However he does have the ability to stop people calling him lazy and that is by challenging for headers, challenging for the loose ball and not throwing himself at the floor like a toddler every time the opposition touches him (or even doesn't touch him)
You’ve been accusing him of not trying for most of this season. I actually advised you to watch one game back in particular where you said he didn’t jump for the ball all game, when in fact he actually won some headers, forget which game it was, but I won’t trawl back anyway. The times I’ve read many posts on here critising our players for not using ‘ gamesmanship’ in trying to win free- kicks etc, perhaps Woodrow’s too honest a player and not very good at conning refs? Anyone can see his game has been clearly affected this season, there are varying opinions as to why that is, most of them are valid, but in no way is or has been being idle and uncaring. I have been to and seen a lot of our games so far this season, and I’ll say once again, a lack of effort is not something that can be levelled at the players. I have seen us all to often being Inept, lack of nous, simply not good enough, lack of thought/anticipation. All Have been in abundance unfortunately
He has been poor and people have wondered why he hasn't been dropped, people has questioned weather he should be captain, people have questioned his effort which wasn't a issue for me untill yesterday. He hasn't had as much stick as victor, brittain and others. People are entitled to have a opinion on a players performance along as it isn't personal abuse.
I don't agree with booing individual players and mistakes, and what RedRum stated above about Big Vic is awful. I don't know why, but I really like the guy for his effort alone. However, I don't see anything wrong with booing at fulltime, or even halftime, to show displeasure with the whole performance.
I've just watched the highlights. If we could play like we did in the 10 minutes after the lights came back on, we'd have a much better chance of winning. Even Woodrow looked like his old battling and shooting self during this period. On a separate point, why did Collins punch that ball and not catch it earlier in the game, which could've put us in more trouble? Unlike him.
This didn’t actually happen though did it? Repeating it doesn’t make it true, even if you tweak it slightly each time
