Why are the mask wearing changes coming in Tuesday

It's a public health emergency if Boris and co had wanted to they could have done it straight away under existing legislation and had it ratified by parliament later.

 

And would you support fining someone who didn't watch BBC one on Saturday evening if they walked into their counter shop without a mask on their way home from the match?

no comment on that but the new regs make zero sense. If I nip into Tesco for 2 minutes I wear a mask but if I go down the boozer for 12 hours I don’t. It’s both or neither.

 

Surely no-one still thinks you can't catch Covid in a pub or restaurant.

 

It's not what we have become it's always been the case. People are selfish, we evolved that way. If we weren't you would be just as upset as some you dont know dying as a member of your own family.
If we weren’t selfish we would all be donating bone marrow and organs to stranger's.
Most luxuries we crave all come at the expense of someone else.
The difference is you have drawn your line in the sand at people not wearing face coverings in shops, which is fine but I'm sure if you examined your life honestly you will have made plenty of selfish choices. Or it's just me?

Er, no. That could only be done if primary enabling legislation had been in place allowing ministers to pass secondary legislation on the matter under the authority granted in the primary statute. It isn't, so it can't.

No problem. And I perhaps ought to say that the Public Health Acts (e.g. 1984) do contain provisions allowing the Secretary of State (for Health) to make secondary regulations in respect of certain aspects of disease control. But the Face Coverings regulations were passed by Parliament, presumably being considered outside of the scope of the primary Act. I have to admit I'm a bit of a nerd about checking where the Government draws it's power from, and what our responsibilities as citizens are! But I think there are current practitioners on here - e.g. Mansfield Red, Bar Tyke and Darfield Red. Apologies to them if I'm wrong.

Unless they are making them next door to you and passing them over as soon as they are made what does it matter? I thought the idea was that they are supposed to stop the spread of infection from the mask wearer and give a little protection to the wearer from others around them?

 

Retrospective laws are a legal minefield, I’d expect the law to be voted on Monday. Law change from Tuesday.

 

I wore my in Wakefield today, not many others were. I get a few looks, no doubt comments behind my back, say it to my face mfkrs, I dare you.

 

We now have to live with Covid forever. At some point you will catch it… probably more than once. Possibly as often as you caught flu in the past. If we find that our health service is struggling, then mask wearing and lockdowns may have to happen. It was implied that whilst infections were up, the hospitalisations and deaths were down. This is not about being selfish, it’s about life having to go on. It’s about people wanting normality for themselves and their children. The social development of the youth of this country may not be fixed after the last two years. There will be lots of fall out for both physical and mental health.

I will personally wear a mask when I’m told to. When it’s deemed not to, I won’t. I work in close contact with many none mask working people. And will all next week and for the foreseeable future. If you want to wear a mask for the rest of your life, or the next two months, or not…. I’m not actually that bothered, it’s your choice. I’m hoping we get to some form of normality for the vast majority to function healthily. And I don’t think we will do that with Covid restrictions. Unless we find the health service is being overrun, then we may have to re assess.

I've seen loads of people wearing masks since the mandate was lifted, I doubt anyone gave it a second thought. The only thing I think when I see someone with a mask on in a shop is they may have reason to be extra cautious so I'll make sure I give them plenty of space.
