https://www.theguardian.com/comment...oned-51-weeks-protesting-britain-police-state It certainly looks like it.
tbh while I think everybody should have the right to protest I'm totally behind anybody shifting the pie larks that block the main roads and stick themselves to it
Same paper that condemned the anti-lockdown protests of 2020. I am so glad that people are finally catching up with the fact that we’ve sleepwalked into totalitarianism with the disgraceful legislation passed in the last 18 months, but the Guardian were one of the main culprits of State apologism so for them to cry about it now is a bit rich.
Is this the way they run the Government now: "Priti Patel, the home secretary, shoved 18 extra pages into the bill after it had passed through the Commons, and after the second reading in the House of Lords" Absolutely disgusting behaviour, but only to be expected from these charlatans
It's no more than I've come to expect from this lot, and her in particular, but I don't understand how it can possibly be legal.
Well if this bill passes into law in its current form it makes a mockery of Britain claiming to be a democratic state. Its the kind of state control used by dictatorships not regimes which understand that protest is a part and parcel of a healthy democracy. BUT..... Boris has funny hair and makes me laugh so I'll certainly be voting for him and his pals next time.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/worldservice/people/features/ihavearightto/four_b/casestudy_art09.shtml Nothing new I'm afraid . Your rights have been continuously eroded since 9/11 and why Julian assange is sat in a UK prison without charge for revealing US war crimes in Iraq . I would say that the west s mask is slipping or that people are starting to realise we don't really live in a democracy hence the more authoritarian stance many western governments seem to be taking as a way of keeping control . I think the big danger is the more stressed the establishment becomes the more right it will push people as a desperate attempt to remain relevant ( see 1930s Weimar Germany ) . As a footnote take a look at the upcoming french elections . The left are nowhere . It's effectively a toss up between centre right macron and 3 right wing incumbents le pen included . Worrying times .
Yes, yes and thrice yes, not only is this Nation becoming more and more uncaring, it has become selfish, inwardly looking and will accept almost anything this corrupt, lying set of self-serving Govt Ministers throws at it.
“Dictators rely for the most part on repetition, suppression and rationalization - the repetition of catchwords which they wish to be accepted as true, the suppression of facts which they wish to be ignored, the arousal and rationalization of passions which may be used in the interests of the Party or the State. As the art and science of manipulation come to be better understood, the dictators of the future will doubtless learn to combine these techniques with the non-stop distractions which, in the West, are now threatening to drown in a sea of irrelevance the rational information essential to the maintenance of individual liberty and the survival of democratic institutions.” Aldus Huxley 1958.
Aldous Huxley was a man way ahead of his time, as if he had the gift of time travel and had seen the future and then written in great detail about it. Brave New World was one of my set books for A level English and I studied it in almost forensic detail, mainly because it was so gripping. He was bang on the money about most things, and frighteningly so about this current political climate.
Started in 1984 when Thatcher used the Police for internal oppression of her citizens, rather then protecting the community against crime with the consent of the people - the original intent of the Police.
Id say George Orwell was probably on the same time travel mission - though he got the date wrong pretty much everything in his books is being used as a text book by our leaders
Between them they were uncannily accurate in their predictions regarding wars, thought police, over-bearing CCTV on every corner, test tube babies, mind-altering/behaviour suppressing drugs etc etc. It's all in there (1984 and BNW). And these were written in the early decades of the 20th century don't forget. If H G Well's idea of Martian death rays on Wimbledon Common comes true then we really ARE in trouble
Best post I've seen on here for a while. The Police in this country should be servants of the people, not instruments of the state
Largely agree but don't altogether diss mind-altering drugs, when you have a mind like mine, owt is an improvement
