Based on that video, it would be a no for me. Doesn’t seem to have any mobility on it, great touch, shot and passing ability but just wouldn’t suit the pressing game.

If we're currently employing a pressing game then I must be missing something. Individual players choosing when to close down would be a more accurate description.

Yes please...fact he hasnt played for a bit and could only last 45 minutes is a bonus....he'd be the fittest in the squad!
As previously said Palmer can do 60 mins at best!

I wouldn't base much on any video of carefully selected clips. But whether he suits a pressing game would be the least of the worries. If he can control a ball, not be knocked off it by a light breeze and kick it in the general direction that he intends to, he's in.

If Devaney reports to Poya that he's putting a shift in in training, and showing some desire to play then it's something the club should be seriously considering.

Midfield is the weakest area of the squad for me, probably a reason why luton didn't renew his contract but in the current situation if he can get fit its worth a gamble.

If he comes id still change formation to 3 in center midfield and 2 up top not like were scoring with 3 strikers anyway.

I still hate Michael Brown for that tackle. Butterfield has had a pretty decent career, but oh what might have been.

In fairness, he chose to go to Australia. He did pre-season with Wigan and was close to signing there but then received a lucrative two-year deal to play overseas, and he took that option instead. Something he’d always wanted to try. But Australia took COVID a lot more serious than most nations, there were strict lockdowns, weeks in quarantine and he called time on it at the end of his first year. He was meant to sign for Donny this summer (did pre-season) but they couldn’t shift a couple of players on to fund signing him. They’re proper skint. He’s had other offers in L1 and L2 but down south and at this stage of his career with a young family, he wasn’t keen.

Last I heard, he’d practically retired. But seems Bobby and Martin invited him in to keep in shape, to work with the 23s and maybe he’s got the itch back? I don’t know. Nice to see him around the place though. I’m a romantic when it comes to stuff like that. Not many folk left at the club with proper BFC history anymore.

I don’t agree with that at all.

Remember he signed for Norwich when recovering from a nasty injury. He got a big pay rise but at that time it might have ended up being his last contract.

You can’t have expected him to sign a new contract with Barnsley on much less money when recovering from a potentially career threatening injury when he had a premier league offer on the table? Yes he’d about got over the injury but you never know with a knee injury like that until you try to play. The club had allowed his contract to run down as well. We know the pitfalls of people only ever getting contracts of one or two years as used to be the case.

I really don’t see any pitfall of bringing him in now. He’s 31, not 38. What would it actually cost, too? Not a great deal. I’m sure he’d accept a pay as you play and low basic.

And where else are we going to get a player with 300 championship games experience with an affinity to the club?

Is he past it? Maybe. But what have we got to lose? Nobody else in the squad has put their hand up and shown they are worth a place in a championship central midfield. People say it sounds desperate. So? We are desperate. Sign him up.

Would have been a good signing for donny, God were in a mess but could be worse could be donny.
