Bizarre circumstances but the goal stands.

That'll be a good subject for discussion.

I think the goal should stand, but the ref should have spotted the keeper down, and blown his whistle earlier.

I don't know why that is though. If it was a defender down they wouldn't stop the game.
I understand goalies are over protected to the max from fouls, but anywhere else on the pitch it's just play on.

Tell you hat the way Arsenal play it about at the back would cause some raised blood pressure for some on here if we tried it! :D

Not a head injury though and caused by a bump with his own player so don't see why he should blow?

I hope it leads to less keepers going down and claiming foul for no reason.

Unless it's a head injury then play on.

Arteta's stuck to his guns and it appears to be working for him.

I've had a soft spot for Arsenal since the yellow/black chevron type kit in the early 90s. Tavares and Tomiyasu .have made such a difference for Arsenal at full back. Still not sure about White and Gabriel, they are no Adams and Keown, but I'd say Arteta is doing a good job.

We scored a similar one against Wolves in 97.

Darren Sheridan I think it was. Wolves keeper Mike Stowell got clattered from a corner and the referee didn't give a foul, and Sheridan smashed one in from the edge of the box.

Edit: found the game on YouTube.

Poor defending in the box there.

But goalies are obviously different though right?
I get it’s Man Utd but if that’s within the rules (which it is) then the rules seem wrong.

Why when it was his team mate that upended him. Goalies would fall.down all the time if you changed the rules.

    Disagree.

Why would the keeper have been on the floor in that circumstance, what benefit would he have gained? Same with the vid of our goal.

this suggestion that keepers would suddenly start diving seems mad. It’s not like either example was a decent chance of scoring so the keeper made a conscious decision to fall over.

Looking at the ‘treatment’ that was eventually given , the soft sod could have just got up on his own and he could have saved in even on one leg

Agreed but then we end up in a judgement situation after the event. He would clearly have saved the shot had he been stood up. He was trod on so wasn’t so surely that’s all that matters?
