He featured last season under val and had some good games. He couldnt have gone as far back to be as poor as what ive seen this season.
Agreed. He was behind Mowatt and Matty James for the first half of last season and injured for much of the second but he still got in 28 appearances
It was crazy to loan him out and then rely on a Prem U23 player with no league experience (Gomes), one with questionable fitness (Palmer), a triallist (Hondermarck) and another Prem U23 player with a couple of dozen L2 games under his belt (Benson). Not like it was asking for trouble is it?
Did you see him away at Bolton? I'm just pointing out that him staying with us doesn't guarantee we would have had the same player now. Moving to Oxford took the pressure off, allowed him to drop a level away from the pressure he faced here, and play himself in to fitness. Calling that objective stupid and the 'worst decision of the Summer' is completely discounting the reality of where he was at when we let him go.
I would guess that if you compared the Herbie Kane from August to Gomes, that the latter was the better option and will have played more games.
I don’t really know anything about him so I’m not sure. Maybe he’ll be one for next season especially if, as is likely, we are back in league one.
I said it here at the time, the decision to loan out Kane was absolutely mental. I’d have him and Gomes in Midfield in a shot.
Whereas now we have player who as likely as not will be unsettled and wanting way. Certainly if Karl Robinson as anything to do what it he will be. The way Robinson is telling it they have agreed a deal for him to go permanently in January. I just hope with our change in coach the whole thing is looked at again because we really need him back. Doubly so if we are in league one next season
I’d be happy to have him back but I’m not sure he’s what we need. We’re proper lightweight in there. When Huddersfield had success at the weekend they just went straight through the middle like Gomes & Palmer weren’t there & it didn’t get any better when Benson came on. For all the stick Schopp got for playing Moon there I can understand why he did it because the natural midfielders are all lightweights. I wouldn’t be against putting Halme there when he’s back fit.
Do they have a million quid.. ? Under a long contract here. Conway won't want to make a loss. Can't see a move to Oxford myself.
If as it seems, he's hit form to be the player we expected him to be, I'd definitely recall him, its not as if we are overloaded with midfield options. He's obviously available for recall because they are worried about losing him, at the end of the day he is our player so shouldn't be any argument. They want to keep him then as the saying goes 'show us the money'
he is not a championship player. league 1 is his level, terrible decision to buy him for 1 million quid
I get why people are suggesting recalling him, given how weak our midfield looks. but some of the comments baffle me a bit. let's not forget how bang average Kane had been for us prior to his loan. for the money, massively disappointing. at the time, I don't think too many argued against him being out of the squad, or letting him go out on loan. if he's done well enough on loan to develop and return to us a better player - great. isn't that the purpose of a loan? mowatt is the obvious comparison. started poorly, went out on loan, returned a different player and went from strength to strength. I also think people forget how big the gap in quality is, between L1 and Championship. I'd absolutely expect him to perform better for a L1 club. equally, I wouldn't assume that because he's done ok at L1, he's going to be good at Champ level. he still might not be. the thing that completely puzzles me in all this, is why hondermarck isn't getting a look in. it seems absolutely obvious to me that he's the best option, to give us the physical strength in midfield that we desperately need. I've not seen him in training though.
