Our luck has run out. The Spreadsheet must’ve crashed, and it’s fairly obvious we’re getting relegated. Not having the funds to compete fairly in this league makes survival difficult enough, but for whatever reason, we don’t seem to have much fight in us this season. Therefore, I now hope we can at least manage three things this season: 1. Better Rotherham’s lowest points tally of 23. 2. Win at least 1 away game. 3. Finish above Derby. Rotherham had 2 wins and 10 points after 22 games in their record-breaking season so, for now, we’re bettering that at least!
Why is it obvious we are relegated? I thought we had another 72 points to play for, had a transfer window less than a month away to try and sort things and have got out of similar positions in the past. Hope the players don't have the defeatist attitude of some fans when we aren't half way though the season yet.
11 points to catch up equal Rovrums record? It's doable, although I can't see which 4 teams were going to beat to get there. 2. Surely an away win, anybody please? 3. Think that all depends on Derby.
We’ve won 2 of 22 games, have the worst attacking record in the division, and are conceding an alarming amount of goals. To date, we have our lowest points tally at this level over the last 8 seasons (and that includes 2 relegations) and, barring some wonder signing in Jan, I just can’t see how we’ll turn it around when the most positive recent results have been draws. I’ll happily hold my hands up and apologise if we do, and I’d love to be proved wrong, but I clearly don’t share the optimism of others.
But will the board bother with "wonder signings"? If we are so far behind why would they chuck money at a titanic flop? They are more likely to do sweet f.a. which is what we'd expect of them anyway. The least they will do is let players go for whatever they can get to fund the rest of the season and the forthcoming debacle of relegation.
Whilst I agree with what you say, and I want to be positive, I am finding it harder as each week passes. The two things which worry me most are the gap between us and safety; 8 points, or 9 if you include goal difference. That's 3 wins we need with the other team losing 3. The second point is the product on show on the pitch so far this season, which means even those 3 wins look unachievable.
I’d actually seen somewhere that Rotherham’s record low points total was 18. I was confident we’d beat that but now I know it’s 23 I’m not so sure. Think we will but only just. I’m going for a final total of 25.
I do not think throwing money at it works anyway, we paid out £1 million for Thomas & £1 million plus on Herbie Kane both these players have been loaned out to clubs in lower leagues so I think its a case of wasting money more than spending money thats the route problem.
Dunno Morris, McBurnie, Dike and Moore were all jan signings. personally I think Kane will come good.
It's fairly obvious because the new manager is no better than the last one and all that will happen in the January window is the board will have a fire sale and any player that they get an offer for will go and they'll sign some more U23s from the scrap pile at other clubs to replace first team regulars because that's the model.
I guess if we won 2 games (maybe Peterborough and Reading at home), drew 5 games and lost 17 it's doable
I do not disagree with you , I was pointing out that throwing big money at transfers does not always work which your post confirms but two of those players were loan signings & getting them right is a key feature , I also think Kane will come good but a club our size cannot pay fees out like we did for him & then loan him out.
Yes I think we will likely finish up with around 35 points maybe a few more if we pick up once we are down (does happen) Beyond that I can't see us getting out of it.
Over the years I had many discussions with my dad (he was like Fraser on Dad's Army "We're doomed") and I was always saying that we'd get out of trouble (and usually did). However, this time, sadly I really can't see it. Come on Reds, prove me wrong, please.
Lol I was fully behind everything you said until the part you said “why”. These cowboys won’t invest in January, not the kind of investment we need anyway. Such a shame, as I think 750k would go along way to fixing a few of the issues.
Bumping this one as it’s starting to look tighter than I thought. After 25 games Rotherham had 13 points - but they had won 3 games. If we don’t win our next game we’ll be tracking behind. They had 16 points by game 26. Still no away win. Already below Derby. Grim!
