Option 2. Which fits the rules of the sport, as it is what should have happened.

Tough sh*t for Verstappen and co, just as it's tough sh*t for Lewis right now. But you're talking about the integrity of the sport here.

Whichever one of them is awarded the title now, well its an absolute ******* **** show from the FIA. If they void the result would MV be WDC?

Which rule though? There is no rule that says that if a race director doesn't follow the rules then we just go back a lap before he did that and call it quits. That's no more a rule than letting a few cars through is sadly.

I guarantee that the sporting regs wil be rewritten for next year to include a clause that states exactly that though but at the moment they're not there.

Either way I absolutely feel for Lewis right now and can't praise him or his dad highly enough for their dignity following the race. Gone up in my estimation

It's a disgraceful decision and will NOT be reversed! FIA is as useless as is Masi. People like Button, Coutlhard etc have alliegances and also like to stir things up given they are now pundits.
Button claims the rules are not clear. Sorry jensen they are - ALL lapped cars are to unlap or none. Masi panicked and ony allowed half through. by the rules the race should have ended under safety car. Therefore the last lap should be voided and on countback LH was leading on the final racing lap.

The illegal bending of the rules massively affected the outcome but the media will simply not allow the circus to do an 'about face' Most casual fans won't care anyway since it is about the spectacle rather than the sport integrity. I like some of the football analogies on here though.

    Course they had a choice.

Come in, go back out in second on fresh tyres and hope that they take max on the restart IF there was a restart.

Obviously it would have been a MUCH bigger risk for him than it was for max who had nothing to lose but it was still a choice they made.

Couple of commentators were talking about it afterwards and basically said(paraphrased) any enquiry will result in Masi made a mistake but result will stand.

They were backed in to a corner with nowhere to go. The majority of the possible opportunities and outcomes were stacked in Red Bull’s favour at that moment. To then not follow the rules brings the Grand Prix in to disrepute, and just because there’s no written rule doesn’t mean action can’t be taken. It’s not as if not having something in writing means nobody does anything about it when it happens.

I don't think Masi knows what he's doing at times.

Whatever happens, I'm going to count that as an eighth title for Hamilton, based on the rules of the sport.

The whole season has been really hasn't it with wishy washy decisions and contradictions throughout. Things have got to change for the good of the sport. Good thing is that Lewis is experienced enough and mature enough to not let it affect him next year like it could with other people.

Yep they ll pin it on Masi but they can't peanalise max because he's done nothing wrong . That will be the narrative used though a race result has been changed before due to a **** up by them ( fisichella for Jordan 2004 Brazil ) but I can't see it this time .

I thought Lewis was impeccable post race. And people choose to hate on him when he’s as respectful as that, I can guarantee Max wouldn’t have offered that same level of respect.

Red Bull, unsurprisingly, backing the decision. But they know they’ve won that race by default and shrouded in controversy.

That’s a farce as well while we’re at it. Max’s extra win coming at the “race” in Belgium.

Mercedes are appealing based on max overtaking under the safety car because when Lewis was slowing to a crawl his front wing went a few inches ahead for half a second (looking from one angle and using stopwatch on my phone).

Difficult isn’t it, Max drove to the rules, should he be penalised for following rules.
Bit like a footballer scoring a goal that never should have stood in letter of the law.
