Maybe so. But there’s never much discourse around how wildly wrong some of the models have been - especially considering they’ve been used to support opinions, make life changing decisions, and have contributed to the general outlook society today has on life. We just blow it off like it’s nothing. Especially Independent Sage.

I was. I just didn’t word it that way obviously after a long day and it being pretty late. I’d hoped that would have been a given based on me saying as much though.

No I think that one was on me. I definitely didn’t mean to imply by matter of fact if it was milder it would not cause an NHS issue. Just that IF it was there’s a chance it wouldn’t.

People like your good wife are dedicated to their job and deserve far more than a Thursday night clap. Proper pay would be a good start.

More mate, the government has never published the advice it's been given by SAGE since day 1 of the pandemic. If they did it would show up the enormous scale of their mismanagement.

In the meantime, on Thursday of this week at a special council meeting Barnsley MBC the ICU at Barnsly DGH are to be presented with the Freedom of the Borough. No money involved, but as this is the highest level of appreciation that can be shown by the town to any of it's citizens I'm proud that the council are doing this on all our behalf.

Having just posted that, I now read that the special council meeting has now been postponed. I imagine that ironically, that is likely due to the latest upping of restrictions. I hope it is swiftly rescheduled - it would be a richly-deserved accolade.

Make it a gathering rather than a party and you will be fine. Covid goes to parties but ignores gatherings.

Since Starmer took over it's the closest thing we've had to a coalition since Nick Clegg jumped into bed with David Cameron.

I have no problem with a booster jab. I booked it before I bumped the booster jab thread over the weekend to tell people they could already book before waiting until today. All the centres offering it in my area were during the day so Boris should work at making evening appointments available. My issue is eight months ago Professor Doom said we need to learn to live with the virus but with most people at least double jabbed, well over 90% of people having antibodies and deaths/hospital admissions flat lining we see restrictions brought in.....

I think this lady knows her stuff and can be trusted......

Currently up to 75 Tory MPs against that awful vaccine passport. Still no mention of my MP on the list who hasn't responded yet to the email I sent him.

Given that a negative test can be used instead of proof of vaccination, can we all stop calling it a "vaccine passport"? - It is a "Covid passport".

Given that even those vaccinated can catch and spread, we'd probably be better using negative tests for larger events anyway - including football matches (which have been found to significantly increase spread after a big crowd has attended). Although the news this morning are reporting we are now out of home testing kits...

Realistically, it isn't going to be possible to give the 20m+ people that need a booster a jab in the 13 working days left this year - it would take a sustained rate over double our previous highest number. And not many people are going to turn up for a jab on any of the bank holiday days - or likely immediately before to avoid having side effects over the holiday period (I wasn't unwell after the booster, but I did feel off it a bit and my legs felt like I'd run a marathon for a week...)

The other aspect of Omicron is the economic impact. If it gets to the same level as Delta, we are probably looking at over 100,000 people having to isolate for the next 7-10 days, every day. Or nearly 1 million people isolating at any one time...

Steve Baker is as mad as a box of frogs. A complete, frothing at the mouth, "Christian" Tory and Brexit/Covid hard man. Hes also my prediction for next Tory leader when you look at the membership.

I agree with a lot of what that Guardian article says. I’ve pretty much held that view from Day 1. For me it’s the definition of how we ‘live with it’, that’s the tricky bit.

Viruses mutate in often unpredictable ways. The human body responds to that, which we aide with medical and scientific advance. Massive shifts in geo-political factors mean different countries, entries populations, take different approaches. There’s simply no quick win, or one way, to respond. Massively complicated. Learning to ‘live with it’ will mean many different things across the world. I’ve no idea what that’s gonna look like, however I definitely don’t think it means ‘fk it, just get on with things as they were in 2019’.

Philosophically I just cannot connect with Tory rebels. It’s like lending my support to Nigel Farage, just because we both happen to agree on proportional representation.

If this is how people are reacting to adjusting to life under covid though, it terrifies me to think what our chances are, when faced with the types of sacrifices we may be asked to make to respond to the climate crisis. No covid on a dead planet I spose

Projections made by proven liar Whitty and proven fantasist Ferguson. Absolutely laughable that anyone gives them the time of day.

What was Steve Baker doing during the 2008 financial crash again?
