From the car park at Langsett, walk through the woods along the bank of Langsett Res, then turn left over the bridge and follow the track up along the flank of Hingcliff Hill. It's the Cut Gate track running along Mickleden Edge. At the highest point on the track, before it drops down to the Derwent Valley, turn right (north west) along a barely visible track along the crest of the moor. Outer Edge is then up a slight rise, there's a trig point and lots of boulders for shelter.
Beautifully bleak up there, amongst the highest parts of SY, done Langsett to Howden via the Cut gate path many times. Hordron road track is good too.
We’re off to the UAE to visit our nephew (and the kid’s cousin) who we’ve never met before as he’s only 1 and this is the first opportunity we’ve had to get across with all the restrictions. On Christmas Day we’re having a barbecue in the desert.
Cappucinos then 'Home made' (by my missus) chicken liver pate on toast with ' Foragers fizz' (Prosecco with a dash of Sloe Gin) to wash it down. Christmas tradition in our house and also my daughter's now. Used to have Goose rather than turkey for Xmas dinner but hard to get here at Christmas as, strangely, Roast Goose is one of those foods that appears in August at the various Festas in many areas. We have duckling nowadays instead. Never a lover of Turkey although Bronze are decent but again not seen them here.
Saw a white hare last February on the old snow Road opposite the Dog and Partridge at Langsett...was walking the original toll road towards Windscar res.......beautiful sight
Have you seen this chap Pat Dickinson doing his wild camps, puts the videos on Youtube and makes a decent production. He likes his beer and stove cooking as well.. Link here to one of his videos, worth a watch.
8 hour* round trip to pick up junior on the 23rd, followed by another 8 hour round trip to return her on the 27th for work. Kids! *Bangor, so around 2.5-3 hours of driving each way on a good day plus toilet breaks at Chester services, stopping for food and hopefully a stretch on the Llandudno coast if the weather is kind...
you'll be all nice and warm/pissed, not like northern germany in december when its fairly, erm, bracing shall we say ?
That would be the best BBS do ever! I do have a contingency plan to move on if I see 20 shadowy figures approaching out of the mist, all arguing mercilessly with each other about vaccines, lockdowns, passports, brexit, parties, boosters and tactics.
I like to celebrate Christmas by buying the Mrs' family loads of nice stuff and receiving a load of old ***** in return. I then look forward to eating the driest meat of the year before being patronised by some old crone talking down to me on the idiot lantern. My favourite though is spending all January trying to pay for the *******.
