On Channel 5 at 5.55.One of the greatest Christmas films ever in my opinion.Plenty of other versions over the years but Alistair Sim clinches it for me.

Definitely the best version. Only the Muppets come close!

The only two that come close are the one with Patrick Stewart and the mini series that was on the BBC a couple of years ago with Guy Pearce, Stephen Graham and Andy Serkis.

The BBC mini series was quite dark and had a slightly different take on the story compared to other versions

By a mile. The only thing to get even remotely near it was Paul Conway in 'The Best Close Season Ever'.

    Best Scrooge's imo:

    Patrick Stewart
    George C Scott
    Bill Murray

Michael Caine wasn't bad in the Muppets one.

All decent enough, but they all come second to Dickens' novella. Free to download for Kindle (and other e-readers, I guess).

“But you were always a good man of business Paul…”

“Business!” cried the ghost. Football was my business! The common welfare was my business; tarn, teamwork, integrity, and community, were all my business. The financial dealings of my trade were but a drop of water in the comprehensive community of football!” ...

It held up its chain at arms’ length, as if that were the cause of all its unravelling grief and flung it heavily upon the West Stand.

CEO - Paul, I was wondering if you'd like me to get a quote for demolition of the West Stand?
PC - No, time will erase it at no cost to us.

I have it as part of the BBC box set Ghost Stories For Christmas. As a collection they're a bit hit and miss, but The Signalman is excellent. Especially if you watch it late at night, with the lights off.

It's one of my Christmas traditions to do that on Christmas Eve, along with the 2010 John Hurt adaptation of Whistle and I'll Come to You, though most people seem to prefer the original.
