Yes. We aren't a million miles away from a good team. Defensively we are alright. I think we just need two players next month.... 1) An experienced midfielder to play next to Palmer, Benson or Gomes who's played a few hundred Football League games to help them along. 2) A striker who knows where the net is. There must be a good list of League 1 and League 2 players who fit the bill.
I’d back Woodrow and Morris to get us goals if they were playing as a front two. The various coaches that have persisted with a front three are far more qualified to see what purpose it serves to push at least one of them wide, but I just can’t see it myself.
How do we bring in an experienced midfielder when Khaled has specifically stated that we won't sign any player over 23?
Experience doesn't have to mean old. We could find someone with two full seasons behind them of 100+ games at a young age.
Teams with the lowest expected goals in the Championship this weekend: Barnsley - 0.09 Peterborough- 0.73 Birmingham - 0.86 Hull - 1.01 Bristol City - 1.45 West Brom - 1.75 For a professional team at any level that is an absolutely embarrassing statistic - not going to sell many season tickets next year if that continues especially going down a league.
The only chance we may stay up would be to sign a couple of experienced players. One would be holding midfield / engine room & other would be a target man to flick on to Morris, or whoever is still here at the end of January. I don't bet, but surely even if we signed Jesus from Man City it will be difficult.
At the halfway stage we had 5 wins (21 pts) under Flicker in 2012/13 and 4 wins (19 pts) under Struber in 2019/20
I need a don't know option! I must say I thought we'd have 1 win at least by now under our new manager but a lot can happen between now and the end of the season.
Cream rises to the top. Sludge settles at the bottom. If Barnsley are cream then I'm really poor at analogies, or I'm a Dutchman or I have a degree in bullshi.t. Nailed on relegation barring some miracle or whole world catastrophe.
We need 36 points from exactly half a season to reach 50. That's 72 for the season if that form extended to the full season. In other words, the second half of the season has to be play off form, just to reach 50. This, from a team that has won 2 games, has zero attacking capability and is currently not even trying to win games, just trying not to lose them, to eek out some confidence from somewhere. Anyone who thinks we will stay up must be on drugs.
