Fair play to Hecky, they were worthy winners tonight. Looked really organised and tactically spot on against Fulham.
Yet another one we let go cos we're daft. Got us a cup and promotion but we chucked it all away. I know he was tempted down the road but did we do anything to stop him.
I could be wrong (it wouldn’t be the first time) but he seems a good fit at Sheff Utd especially with McCall as his assistant. Maybe it was because the owner was a crackpot & there had been a long list of managers who hadn’t got it right at Leeds but it never seemed a natural fit even before the poor results No egos & a lot of grafters should suit him.
Who did we let go? I thought he asked to leave us for more money elsewhere with nothing we could have done about it.
Pretty sure it would have taken much more than a week to week contract to tempt Hecky back to Oakwell. Starting with new owners taking over
Ok guys. He's now won 61 of his 171 games as gaffer. My word he's over 35% now. It's still a no from me. Got too far up himsen.
There’s no way he’d ever work for these owners again….sadly. He couldn’t wait to get away the first time. Got a feeling he’s going to do a top job for the Blunts.
Hecky is a top manager & a top fella, the owners made a huge mistake taking him for granted. He was the right fit at Barnsley & should have been our head coach for years. Unfortunately the owners & previous owner shafted him. He worked miracles to keep us out of the relegation zone before he left that season. We would have stayed up if he remained in charge I have no doubts.
He failed at Leeds and Hibs. If he's more positive and stops being a negative, miserable, morngy sod then he will do ok there. Good start no doubt but let's see how he goes over the next few games.
They'd won the game before he took over as well, no real reason why they should have struggled coming back down really.
No one except a well known, likeable, respected manager would get us out of where we are now. Lads are shot to bits. Confidence must be at zero. Some good players in that squad but they need a lift. Would have been the perfect time to break what we usually do and hire a known manager. Not sure who before anyone asks but they need some belief installing. We have done ok since Poya took over and i mean no more than ok but if we dont win soon, that tiny bit of optimism will be knocked out of the squad and fans by first week of Jan.
Watched the game Sheffield united played well and got what they deserved they have a good squad though and were really underachieving under the previous manager many tipped them for top 2. Hecky did well with us in a similar role when he was promoted from within it went south for him here when he put his own stamp on it after conor left. He then went on to take over at leeds turned play off chasers into relegation fodder and then bielsa went and got the same squad promoted as champions. Then at hibs one of the biggest clubs in scotland he played his infamous 451 failing miserably. Jurys still out for hecky but he has a good squad there and no pressure so cant see why he cant do well.
What could the previous owner done? Winnall forced a move and conor asked to go and scowen and watkins ran there deals down and left for nothing. Not much you can do if players want out. After conor and winnall went he changed his agent that summer who put him in the frame for every job going he moaned about experience and loaned mowatt the most experienced player we had out had pinnock as 4th choice center back and constantly public slated players after games something which isnt nice to see.
I disagree, Mr Cryne failed to find a CEO after the useless Linton Brown left, therefore Hecky was doing 5 jobs at once, I had no problem with those players leaving, but that was down to not offering said players new deals after promotion to reflect the job they had done. That back 4 of Bree, Roberts, McDonald, & White were on about 4k collectively (I was quoted this by someone ITK at the time.) He had a massive turnover of players that following summer, & still lacked any experience, like he said many times. Of course he wanted out, but he did the best with what he had, & kept us clear of the relegation zone until that Portuguese pillerk came in. He took a gamble with Leeds, & they certainly weren’t play off bound, they were mid table at best. They deem him a failure, but when you look at the job he did, he did alright bringing young players through. He was a short term option for them. Hibs was probably the wrong move, Scotland is dodgy league to manage in unless you’re at Celtic or Rangers, there’s not much you can aim for apart from 3rd.
Their squad is class though. Most of that first XI would get into at least six or seven Premier League teams and look as though the young lad up top who scored has bags of potential to make it. You’re right though, fair play to Hecky. Don’t begrudge him going to Leeds and never did and he’s won three on the bounce now I believe. Outside bet of play offs.
Cryne offered to make hourhine the highest paid player in barnsley history to keep him and he said ni he wanted to leave. Even when offering players new deals if they want out they will go the club are just able to get more money for them. We did have a massive turnover of players but with the player he signed it was obvious he wanted to carry on playing the 451 that he played after conor left that he also played at hibs and leeds. Clamouring for experience the loaning mowatt out, having pinnock as 4th choice center half. Playing Bradshaw as a lone striker, playing thiam as a lone striker? Because he was barnsley he cpuld do no wrong though. They were 3 points off the play offs when he took over leeds at the end of the season they were closer relegation after only 3 wins. Bielsa got the exact same team with 1 signing barry douglas promoted as champions. He was far from 3rd with hibs before been let go again.
Selective memory. 17 games without a win playing some of the 5hittest football I've seen in a long time.
Disagree. He did well ultimately. Brad Potts ffs! Thiam! It all went south when Barnes got recalled. Had the club not messed up the Mcburnie deal we wouldn’t be having this conversation. He had naff all to work with. Morais came in & messed it all up when we should have turned a corner.
