I see a lot of people slating Scottish football as 2nd rate and League 2 standard.

Who thinks Barnsley would beat Rangers or Celtic if they played next week?

Pointless comparison. That's like saying Ligue 1 is better than the premiership because PSG would beat Norwich

Is it tho'? Is Getafe the bench mark for La Liga?

I don't think Scottish football is the pinacle of world football by any stretch, but some of the comments on the 'Butterfield' thread were arrogant/ignorant (take your pick).

I don't know what the correct benchmark is, but it's definitely not a comparison between the massive outliers at the top of one league (Celtic, Rangers) and the outliers at the bottom of the other league (us)

Might be my biased old mind but I remember back in the late 90s Scotlish football seemed way better then it does now. Rangers and Celtic had some seriously good players and the likes of Hibs & Hearts also had some great players. You would say that most of those players weren’t actually Scottish, and I would guess that their league has lost our money wise compaired with the English top 2 divisions and other comparable leagues in Europe and I don’t see any way to reverse it. I would be interesting to see the wage bills across the Scottish prem compaired to the championship- that would give us some real world data, and whilst not an exact science you can certainly draw a lot of conclusions on the state of Scottish football and how h owe club might fair in the English championship.

Don't really follow it enough to know the standard of player they have. The question is how many of the Rangers or Celtic team would get a game in the Prem I suppose. Then work from there.

Devante cole and kane hemming scored goals in the spl. Apart from rangers and celtic the standard is awful.

Ryan Hedges was mainly a sub at Oakwell, he's a star at Aberdeen. Puts it in perspective. Top four would probably beat the reds but rest would probably be beatable even with the current squad.

Apart from 3 or 4 clubs it's an absolutely dog **** standard. Nothing else to be said.

And I think they get complacent because they don't have competition. It's like entering a car race with a lambourghni when all the rest are ladas.

Poor comparison imo Still professional atheletes and the clubs have things to play for hibs, hearts aberdeen fighting for 3rd place chance of europe. Many clubs st mirren st johnstone fighting for survival. All the clubs look forward to a big day out at celtic park or ibrox infront of a bumper crowd. Another good example is hedges a sub for us in championship we get relegated now hes a star at aberdeen

Probably get shot down over this.
I thought Hedges was not given a fair crack of the whip at tarn. To be able to show his full potential.

I don’t think there’s anyone to blame for Hedges not getting many games but himself. He couldn’t stay fit.

He used to look excellent in a 20 min cameo then whenever he started offer very little.

True. When he first joined he scored 2 or 3 decent goals from the edge of the box & we were all hoping it was a sign of things to come but it seemed to be a never ending circle of decent off the bench, poor when starting, injured & back round again

If you google him blackburn are apparently after him and Aberdeen are resigned to losing him contract up at end of season.
