We’d struggle against Stalybridge Celtic at the moment, and to be frank, I’d fancy my chances in the Darfield Rd Rangers team I played in during the 80’s if Barnsley were the opponents!

We'd struggle to beat a non-league Scottish team at the minute....

Didnt we sign liam lindsay from the spl after he was named in the spl team of the season? He wasnt bad for us but has never really established himself as a championship player.

Ryan Hedges is a far better player now than he was with us, so it’s unfair to compare.
Scottish football gets a hard time off a lot of English football supporters, mainly as they haven’t spent enough time watching it. There’s some real talent coming through the ranks now up there, and fair play to them. Imagine how hard it is for them? They’re trying to survive up there, not compete.

Devante Cole scored 4 in 19 games, Hemmings 10 in 25.

Started very little. Never given a run of games. 12 league games from the start in 50+ appearances in 2.5 yrs. according to stats. Was offered a new contract and turned it down. Couldn’t blame him at the time.

Yes he made it for playing Partick.

Jim O’Brien was the worst one for me, he got in the team of the season playing for Motherwell. Nothing against him personally he was a grafter & had a great personality but it’s bad signs if he’s making team of the season. A winger who doesn’t go past people, can’t put much of a cross in & rarely chips in with a goal.

Thanks for that didnt realise jim o brien made team of season.like you say good grafter but not upto championship standard similar to freiser but diffrent positions.

Lindsay was decent for us in league one but never got a look in at stoke and is on the bench most weeks at pne.

Devante had two spells at Motherwell. Scored something like 12 in 30 last season.

You're right, 15 in 46 in two spells in the SPL, I missed it, it wasn't a deliberate omission.

Which to be fair is not a bad return , I was only saying yesterday that Woodrow & Morris are our main strikers however our next choice should be Cole, I do not think he has been treated fairly especially under Schopp but he has not lost his pace & carries a threat & should be given more game time

There's a clear gulf in quality between the top of the Scottish League, and the bottom. Not too dissimilar to the championship in that respect. I'd say Rangers and Celtic would compete in the Premier League, albeit in the bottom half. Rangers in particular have quite a few players who have previously held their own in the championship (Kemar Roofe for example). Players coming from the SPL tend to do alright in the Championship, which leads me to believe that it's about on par with our league. The Scottish championship on par with league 1, and so on.

We'll never know for certain of course. But as you say, it's not the non league standard that some would have you believe.

I was thinking more of the fact that he had a career at Championship level, before drifting into the lower leagues then eventually to .....
    the SPL.
