At oakwell we regularly see terrible decisions given that the 4th official has most likely seen and could correct but they stand silently watching. At QPR the 4th official has just got a player sent off by telling the ref what he's missed
Dunno but he should have told Stroud to get more sent off then. The amount of bellends that play for QPR and Bournemouth is ridiculous.
To be fair, before the days of the fourth official, a referee would always ask his linesmen/assistants to point out any behaviour that merits a sending off, it’s always been the case. So I suppose same applies for the fourth official today
A 4th official is there for such as Warnock , Joey Barton & a few more to bleat in his earhole for 90 minutes , infact it is worth a thread of its own to vote for the coach/manager who gives out the most earache in a match , just a thought .
The guy in charge of disciplinary at the FA once told me that PGMOL (the company/organisation who provide referees) have nothing in the contract about minimum standards or anything like that. As long as they provide the correct amount of officials they can do what they want. I also asked why the officials match report can't be made public in order to clear up any confusion as to why a certain decision was given etc and he agreed with me that it should be but said that Mike Riley (head of PGMOL) refuses to release them
The role of the 4th official to tell anyone in either dugout getting worked up about a decision, that it had nothing to do with them.
Referees stick by each other whether they agree with the decisions or not , that’s why you very rarely see decisions between ref and linesman being disputed . This is also what is happening to var they rarely go against the original decision and when it’s a clear and obvious error by the ref they ask him to look at the monitor rather than go against his decision . The job is unforgiving no doubt about that and some of the personal abuse needs rooting out but they don’t help their cause even when the technology is there to help them .
