Paul making-leeds-bottom. He has one of the best squads in the league with United top 2 squad. Lee johnson has sunderland a point off the top of league one.
The reason Heckingbottom left Oakwell was he was sick of the number of people who had their head in his bottom. I don't see the lovin' based on his comments about the fans making him cringe with the "one of our own tag" making him feel "claustrophobic".
I'm pretty sure he left because he was basically doing 25 jobs each day - from Head Coach, to answering the phone, to making tea.
Pretty sure GG had been appointed before he left and worked with him to bring in signings that January just before he went. Hecky wanted out for a long time changed his agent and put his name in the frame for every job going.
Tbf I think the blades were turning it round just before he was appointed. Think the 3 goals against us helped!
Possibly at the time there was alot of unrest (not as much as now) some wanted hecky gone, some he could do no wrong. Hecky looked fed up publically slating players in interviews etc.
could try swallowing your pride and giving him some credit. Lee Johnson took the best squad in L1 to the bottom of the table. Lost to non league teams in the league and was generally catastrophic
he was being undermined deliberately and asked to do about 26 jobs at once by a board that was hiding from the consequences of their decisions.
Abit of perspective when hecky took over from johnson we had already won 8 on the spin? And reached the jpt final. Hecky did well for us before conor left and he put his own stamp on it. He took a leeds side a point off the play offs into relegation form. He took hibs one of the biggest sides in scotland and had them in a relegation scrap. Hes doing well now with blades who have one of the best squads in the championship. Good luck to him and johnson just because johnson has Sunderland a point off the top doesnt mean i think he is a great likewise with hecky.
He wanted to leave because he wasn’t happy with how the club was run & wasn’t getting on with Patrick Cryne. He had interest from other clubs where he would be paid a fortune & wouldn’t have anywhere near as much responsibility. I’ve no interest here in getting into who was right & how we were doing on the pitch as they’ve been done to death but the above is why he wanted to go.
Johnson took a team with Hourihane, Winnall, Hammill, Mawson etc to the bottom of the table. Losing to non league sides. Eventually you will win a couple if you have the best team in the league and many who will play at a higher level for years to come. That was done achievement. Hecky sorted that side and got it promoted. Lee Johnson would not have as been a failure wherever he has been at Leeds he was clearly a stop gap and happy to take their money. Hibs are an appallingly run side. This is the test. If he can get the blades into the top 6 it will be a magnificent achievement. They are nowhere near the best 3 sides in the division in terms of quality. West Brom, Bournemouth and Fulham dwarf them. For Johnson anything other than automatic promotion will be judged as failure and quite rightly so. sorry you always come across as very biter than someone from round here did a good job for us.
Thats debatable about uniteds team its opinions west broms is a ageing squad united have some real quality imo and players who have been promoted before they should be finishing in the top 6 minimum. Bielsa took the exact same leeds side hecky won 3 in 17 with and got them promoted. Poorly run or not hibs are currently 5th and should be at that end of the table not relegation scrap. Im not bitter at all he did well when he took over us we had won 8 on the spin and were in a jpt final. I just dont think every bad thing that happens in his career is someone elses fault like you. Its just opinions his managerial career has been hit and miss.
All managers have hit and miss careers. That’s something you refuse to consider. Sone like Johnson have miss and miss but he might finally have got himself into a situation where even he can’t **** up. Though if they do up he will be found out pretty quickly. anyone who thinks that Hecky wasn’t just a stop gap until they signed Bielsa I have a bridge to sell you. He’s literally one of the best managers in the world. Speaking to blades mates they think it would be a massive achievement to get top 6 and no they didn’t want Hecky but think he’s doing a good job. Wilder took a very average team and through managerial ability got them promoted. As soon as left the average nature of the side was exposed.
But you do credit other people with his achievements, which is shoe on other foot to Jimmy. Every Heckingbottom thread you come out with the same stuff, I know you are going to reply and what with. Just another manager who achieved summat with us getting crucified.
