Cheapest ive seen PCRs flying around at is £39. Not sure how much government is paying but jesus h christ. Thats just the positives - how many per day in total are being carried out? We must be spending 10 million pounds per day on testing. For what!? So we can pump out the numbers on telly every day and drive the narrative?

I think where we are now with how contagious it is but also how weak it is we are simply lining some fat cats pockets even further with testing and sequencing. Its like one last wringing out of the cloth to get every penny. and all this test on day x and y... its just absolute b0ll0x. Fact that people in government have shares in all these companies is dodgy as fek.

Its about time someone said STOP and put an end to all this madness!

We are going to be paying for this for decades to come. You can see why its billed as a massive transfer of wealth.

Its almost as depressing as the state of BFC right now. But as we know the good times come and go with footy. This will be a blip all been well. As for the covid malarky i don't think the people making all the cash from it want it to end.

    Follow the money.........

Yep, your test kits won’t be free for much longer .... it’s as if there’s a shortage just to create demand ....

I’d have thought if they charge to be tested no one will bother getting tested

Very soon it needs treating like a cold. If you're under the weather take a test. If you feel fine get on with life. Stop the mass testing. Get rid of vaccine passports too.

How many did we take to Blackburn tonight? 700? The vast majority of a age where we might have covid but the past gets us in. If they had at the turnstiles gave all 700 a LFT on the spot, plenty would have found out they had covid. But that's the risk we take going and are happy to.

Only it wasnt quite that bad as its rolling in several days from Norther Ireland for a start and mysteriously dropped to below 100K over Christmas
so the true figure isn't quite that high
If we weren't testing the figure would be much higher though as many people have not visited people over Xmas due to them testing positive - I and mrs F and My Dad haven't been to my sisters as her eldest tested positive, I know at least 2 other families who haven't met due to positive tests - if everyone had got together there would have been a real explosion.

Its the lack of joined up thinking from our clowns in charge I struggle with - totally no planning or awareness - there is already a shortage of tests so we introduce various things which require testing and tell everyone to test before going out but don't plan the supplies.

I’ve never known as many have it as they do currently.

I’ve got 7 mates & some of their immediate families positive at the minute & facebooks full of people posting positive lateral flow tests.

I’ve no idea what the solution is.

Start dismissing this new variant as the common cold until evidence dictates otherwise.

Sorry mate but you're talking complete rubbish - apart from the money going to testing companies set up by Tory party donors.

From what I've read - from reputable sources - suggests that COVID is following the pattern of previous pandemics in that it is mutating towards less harmful but more transmissible variants which will be with us forever (Spanish flu being the clearest example). It might be that this is our last winter under restrictions.

Don't forget that Astra Zenica developed their vaccine with Oxford University on a non-profit basis so they're not all money grabbing barstards.

Also the cost to the British tax-payer is higher than it should have been because we bought up vaccines early and at a higher price than everybody else to try and demonstrate our British exceptionalism by vaccinating first. It now transpires that the rest of Europe has caught up and passed us at lower cost. I'm still waiting for a refund from Dido Harding of £37Bn for the not-fit-for-purpose test track and trace system which is markedly less effective than the off-the-shelf system they have in Germany which we could have bought for a couple of million. Essentially it's the Brexit/British Exceptionalism mentality which has cost us dearly in all this.

By any chance have you been privy to some info which came my way in early November?

Apparently before the new variant appeared, the government were close to announcing that all LFT and PCR tests would no longer be free of charge.
What I heard from a very reliable source was this change was going to be brought in as early as January, with a no later date than March.
If you've robbed tens of billions via PPE and Test and Trace why not trouser even more.

The biggest problem at the moment is the isolation rules therefore staff sickness. Probably time to look at those as it looks like cases aren’t translating into death

I'm at least glad Londoners are suffering. If it was just up north they would let us all die & get some contractors in that were paid 10 times the normal hourly rate to dig a big hole to bury us all in. They would "level up" the soil over us nicely though. God I hate the Tories.

missis is literally last man standing on her ward so they closed it. Can’t imagine any insurer being happy with an institution placing potentially infected people in with people with clinical vulnerabilities but you’d probably know more than me.

    Not many people do know.

Apparently it's extraction solution from SARS-CoV-2 Antigenimmunoassay using nitrocellulose membranes, coloured nanoparticles (or labels), and typically antibodies, to produce the results.

Was asked to show my covid passport at least 5 times last night.( due to having to go to reception via various entrances) It was just a token gesture and is simple to have used false Id, it was nonsense beyond belief.

We were talking about this today. Clearly special circumstances would dictate special rules on hospital wards but we are on the verge of everything grinding to a halt again because people are being mandated to stay at home when they are not actually that unwell. My wife’s surgery has received a direction this evening to halt / cancel all non essential appts. I just can’t see how that is a proportionate response.

Again you are more of an expert than I will ever be but i can’t see clinically vulnerable people ever being treated by Covid infected staff the lawsuits could be brutal so that switches you onto a normal employer.

I set up building sites for a job. We have temperature monitors and other gizmos that block your access if you have what could be covid. One of our 4 golden rules is ‘be fit for work’. If we let people on our sites who are Covid positive and someone is infected and dies the legal ramifications aren’t worth thinking about it. Corporate manslaughter? And Small businesses certainly would be wiped out by one infection proving fatal.

Some of that responsibility would rest personally with me and there is no way I would be signing it off and can’t imagine others would either.
