I've often read this about Ben Williams, but I think he's been played regularly as a wing back when clearly he's a full back. Defensively, he was the best full back at the club. As a wing back, he's probably not quite championship standard.
Completely uninterested tbh. Our recruitment has been disastrous and I can’t see January being any different.
Do you honestly think he would get in any other championship side as a full back? Against Coventry at home i felt sorry for him 1st half because their winger was ripping him a new one Blackpool away was similar and hasnt been seen much since. Hes only young so time to improve but i think his defensive side is poor.
When it comes to signing a midfielder with Championship experience, we'll have the same problem now as we had in the summer. Anybody that is available will likely be a gamble of sorts. There were people on this forum saying they didn't want to sign Hourihane in the summer. Drinkwater would've been a gamble and nobody batted an eyelid when Morsy left Boro. Any less of a gamble will probably want over 15k/week. This is where an appointment of a Warnock, McCarthy type might've been useful. They'd have some contacts that would've wanted to come to play for them for half a season on loan, Warnock in particular.
You're right in what you say but I'm not even sure the owners will even consider looking for an experienced midfielder anyway. I reckon they're completely set in their ways of signing only young players with potential sell on value (Oulare?? ) regardless of where we are in the league.
To be honest, I don't know how much is down to the owners vs how much leeway the CEO gets. Murphy signed Solbauer, Frieser, Ritzmaier and James who all fell outside of the usual spreadsheet criteria and were going to offer little/no chance of sell on fees, given their age and contract lengths. Unfortunately, we had Conway back as acting CEO, at a time when when the squad balance still hadn't fully recovered from his previous stint in that role. And here we are...
