So after two years of working in frontline social care, wearing all the PPE I can, having three jabs I have finally succumbed to the 'rona. Bit of a sore throat and general meh feeling but other than that all is good. Perfect timing for FA Cup third round weekend though!!
I currently have the vid too. Well, tested positive on a lateral flow Wednesday. Still awaiting my PCR result - there were no tests available at a centre so had to order a postal one, received it and sent it back Friday so I assume they got it Saturday and I’ll get confirmation today. Feel pretty grotty so I doubt it was a false positive. No worse than a heavy cold and fever really though. It did mean I wasn’t allowed out yesterday of course though - that said I had no plans to go anyway.
Do you know when it was that you first contracted it? Just wondering how long it takes for the symptoms to develop with this latest variant?
I think my darling daughter passed it on over new years so around 5/6 days. Started with a sore throat overnight on Wednesday which I've still got. Bit bunged up and not quite with it but no breathing problems, fever or cough. I thought I was just getting a cold as the daily lateral flows were negative until yesterday. Pcr has confirmed it.
My wife and daughters tested positive and were ill before me. I tested positive on a lateral flow before I had any symptoms as I was asked to test myself every day. I started getting ill the same day, my worst days were Thursday to Saturday. Comes and goes, for example my temperature is up and down and bizarrely I lose sense of taste and smell daily but only at night, it has been back again the following morning (though I can only taste stronger flavours). The Mrs and the girls (10 and 7) are symptom free now, the girls had nothing calpol and a cuddle didn’t help with. New guidance says to retest with lateral flows on days six and seven and if negative you can end isolation on day 8. Unfortunately despite being at that point they all still tested positive yesterday, it was day six for the younger one and seven for the older. So they’re not going to school tomorrow…
My wife and step son tested positive on new years eve. I have had the same symptoms as you for a week now but continue to test negative. I don't understand how I am not positive. Step son is already through the other end and now testing negative. Wife is lots better and my cold symptoms are more or less gone. If i am still testing negative by the time her isolation is up on Tuesday, I'll call it a day with the daily tests.
I don't trust the lateral flows very much. I was negative all week on the Flowflex ones (that the government dish out) up until yesterday. I'm still negative on the Innova ones that I get via the NHS through work. The Mrs who is an NHS worker is negative on all laterals, pcr and the lamp test (spit in a tube) that she does everyday.
Just came out my second stint, took test Monday afternoon came back positive, longest week of my life this last week isolating, even the Wife and kids cleared off for the week.
Read somewhere Omicron seems to have a shorter incubation period. Think it said it can be as fast as a couple of days but does vary
Lateral flow tests seem a waste of time We returned from holiday late on Thursday evening and took the PCR return test and posted them on Friday morning I’m negative but wife’s just returned as positive even though she’s done 2 negative lateral flow tests whilst awaiting her result Neither of us have any symptoms but now she has to isolate till at least the weekend The test requirement changed at 4am on Friday morning so by the new rules she could have just carried on with her normal life
I saw some discussion that lateral flow tests seem to work more accurately with Omicron if you take the sample from the tonsils and then the nose. Think the LFTs have been advising to use only the nose.
I used to live in Shipdham and concur; it is indeed flat. Though somehow Norwich manages to have a few slight inclines?
Depends upon the manufacturer. There’s one make that requires both throat and nose and the others I believe require just a nose swab.
