Be interesting to watch him now with his man strength, seemed to me to be caught between not tough enough for centre half and too lanky gangly for midfield, hope he found his niche and congratulations on getting paid to play footy whatever level
McCarthy obviously liked him when he bought him and before that I recall he went on a week long training trial with Man Utd. In other words, a few folk saw his potential but he never made it beyond lower league standard.
He was an Academy player who must have been 6’3” ish when he was 16 and seemingly had “great potential” He played a few first team games but, basically, looked lazy except for the odd movement or pass which made him look good ! Eventually he was loaned to Ipswich who subsequently bought him and he’s been around a few clubs since etc etc
Not the greatest in his short spell around our first team. He's obviously matured and is over his injuries. Glad he's doing well now and I'd still swap him for Palmer.
It would work better if they didn't keep players on for as long as they do. I think we don't run the rule of players quickly enough. The question should be is this player going to make the first team regularly? If not. Get rid. We need a squad of 22 players two in each position. Any unused subs or under 18's make up the reserves so they can fulfil their fixtures. That way first teamers get to keep their eye in.
Only after he was injured...didn't he have a bad one...ACL or such like? EDIT...Sheriff (above) has suggested broken leg...before the injury he looked extremely promising.
Lad who scored Barrow 4th goal was here ,but he upset Hecky and he shipped him out of club,we had lots of promising lads
I don’t remember a bad injury but it would explain a void in his playing career. He was made capt for a pre season friendly ( was it at Crewe ? ). Was it the game when Mido made his appearance ?
Think there’s quite a few Championship players that’s come from our academy that’s Playing in or is Championship quality , plus one or two young buys who we moved on like Pearson . Probably almost enough to have made us competitive this season .
Of course I saw him play & he was affected by his growth disorder but he was a very talented prospect, I also watched the Cambridge v Rotherham match the other week where he played very well & then followed it up with a very good display on the big stage at Newcastle & I happen to think it is brilliant the lad is resurrecting his career from a situation where his injuries early in his career could have cost him his future in the game , but hey ho you slag him off from a period when he was struggling, that is your prerogative but I am not in the slightest bit surprised .
Didn't realise that was Josh Kay (good hit too). I think he played in a game at Oakwell and did pretty well when we had tonnes of injuries. Not sure if it was Fulham or Bristol City, but was quite surprised he never featured again.
He said in an interview last week that "he wished he'd tried harder while he was here".. Like hundreds of other 'promising young hopfuls' they think theyve already made it by just being here. Skill is useless without graft.. just look at Odour and Palmer.
