Johnson’s idea to save his skin. Banning alcohol at No 10, freezing the BBC license fee (then getting rid of it) and the one that will have his racist cult drooling - sending the Royal Navy into the Channel to deal with immigrants. The very title 'Operation Red Meat' shows Johnson regards his followers as no more than wild dogs. Repulsive.
The first thing to say is literally everything is off the table. He will now do literally anything to try and cling onto power. Obviously given he doesn't think he's even done anything wrong, its magnified all the more. The BBC, asylum seekers, the rule of law, the medically vulnerable, the NHS, judges, migrants, europeans, the union.... all are considered secondary in comparison to dePfeffel Johnson retaining his position. The second thing to say. I was at the in laws at the weekend. One is staunchly conservative. One is staunchly right wing and has always voted conservative but I'd suggest they are more ukip/bxp in their views. The staunchly conservative one made the comment "I'll never vote for him (dePfeffel) again.... not that I did at the last GE anyway". The bxp/ukip right winger said "he's a disgrace, he's got to go". Over a few questions I asked if the tories could do anything to change their mind. The answer was a resounding no. One of their friends used to work for a former tory MP in westminster, and she's resigned from the party and her local roles and is going to proactively campaign for the lib dems in the May elections. The end is nigh for Johnson. The big concern is just what the hell he's going to do before his fingers are prised from the levers of power.
Makes me chuckle that they think this will make any difference. If anything there is now a chance that deaths in the channel will increase, on account of heavily armed warships hunting a busy stretch of water for desperate people. This government has to be stopped at the next GE. Too much at stake now.
Normally the things they do when they're sinking are to try and win votes. It might benefit the public the things he does to try and sweeten Joe Public up. If they were about to lose a GE they would do as much as a collective to f cuk things up for the new party taking over. That's why nobody ever gets anywhere in one term in this country. The spend the first one fire fighting. I'd like to see coalition but it won't happen.
Normally, joining or starting a war is a sure fire way of winning votes. We're logistically unable to start a war with a country (due to the Tories decimating our armed forces) so let's just start a war with immigrants, easy win.
Yeah, just 2000 ton patrol vessels with a 30mm cannon, mini guns and pintle mounted machine guns. Against desperate people.
I had a job interview last week at a insect sorting factory, think it went well I boxed all the right ticks.
The problem the ruling party has is that there are a wide range of conflicting views that will appeal to one faction and switch off another faction. The incumbent seized power through lying to all those groups and promising miracles that would never manifest. The notion of "levelling up" should be one that is welcomed.. if it were in the hands of an adult with the intent to make it work and planned it properly, But that cuts across the previous core of the tory vote. If he goes down the route of fighting class wars, there are plenty of centrist tories who don't like that and veer towards the lib dems. Brexit is allegedly done. He can try and mess about with their existing agreement but its their agreement. He's said its done. Nobody is listening anymore and many of the groups he alleged he was helping have been harmed. Fishermen and farmers perhaps the obvious example. So what we'll see, is a two fold approach. Words to try and appease the country. More lies, but thats what they'll do. And the second approach will be to try and win the tory far right psychopath MP's on board again. So the party will push further right in his death throes of office, while trying to appeal to the middle englanders, the new northern cohort and the shires. Whatever the fury in the country, the only way Johnson is removed is if 180 tory MP's vote against him in a leadership contest. In his head, he's content to ignore how he's viewed publicly (he's been doing it his whole life), the keys to power are finding enough people to ensure he can prevent 180 votes against him.
I know fk all about politics, but wouldn't he have gone by now, if he was definitely finished? I wouldn't be one bit surprised if he managed to hang on. so far I'm not seeing the kind of Tory MP backlash that it would take to oust him.
It's all a political calculation by the Tory backbench MPs. Never underestimate their ability to prioritise their own chances of retaining a seat above all else (principles, decency, etc). It's widely speculated that many are waiting for the May local elections before submitting their letters to the 1922 Committee. This allows for the expected bad result to be blamed on BoJo, who will also still be in place when tax rises and the fuel price cap increase kick in in April. They're reluctant to start a leadership contest with no obvious replacement candidate and a couple of major bad news stories being an inevitability between now and then.
This whole thing is pathetic. He should be finished. The BBC thing in particular is just a case of destroying something for the sake of pandering to a few nutjob MPs with a bee in their bonnet. They've been trying to turn the public against the BBC for years by suggesting that it's news coverage is biased - I think the fact that the extreme ends of each party see the BBC as biased against them might be a hint at the truth. Besides, the BBC is the only place where neutrality of news coverage is actually enshrined - getting rid of the license fee will just mean that we lose the only unbiased source of news. If they wanted to raise a legitimate discussion about whether the license fee is fair then fair enough, but this is just about news coverage. IMO the license fee provides extraordinary value, and losing the BBC as is will mean losing lots great things that wouldn't be funded by a regular subscription model. Suggesting that it is poor value is disengenuous. But whether it is fair to have a TV license system is a debate that does need to be had.
