My bad. I thought you were talking about reasonable walking distance to school. I was going to say. Houghton to Darfield definitely isn't and isn't particularly safe either.

Could never decide the best route..Lancaster St ...'up and over' Shambles street and down back of Civic Hall (or arcade) OR down Racecommon Road and along Peel street . Could be pretty wet miserable in winter mornings especially after walking to the bus stop and waiting in Monk Bretton for the bus (no shelter) . School bag weighed a ton sometimes with loads of homework text books etc in the days before the internet and laptops.

    Kids these days know nowt!:D

I doubt you'd take the road, best way would be down the pit lane at Middlecliffe and across the fields.

Why exactly? I went on it yesterday and thought it was perfectly fine. The main issue currently is people not getting in the right lane and still attempting to turn right onto Broadway.

The issue the council are trying to fix is traffic queuing back to the motorway junction. There’s no space (or money) for grade separation and there are too many cars on the road. The only way they could stop the queues backing up to the motorway was to create more carriageway away from the current junction for cars to queue in - that’s exactly why they’ve done. Until people stop using their cars, or public transport provision across the north improves drastically, we’ll have to battle with queuing traffic.

Simplistic solution was to alter the light sequence heading into town leave them on longer allowing more traffic to flow that way and the opposite at the end of day rush

Just to be consistent. I complained on Friday because it took half an hour for one of our vehicles to get from Dodworth Valley to the lights. The same vehicle took less than 5 minutes this morning.

Leaving more traffic to build up along Pogmoor Road and Broadway, and with shorter light sequences for those crossovers, those queues would back up for much longer than necessary. I’m sure that was considered by the council.

Too many cars and not enough road.

It’s supposedly being controlled by temporary lights until Spring so I’d expect lengthier queues until then, but unsure how anyone will know how successful it’s been until it’s properly open.

Used it a couple of times and think the planners have done a brilliant job - the 'wall' on the left as you turn left from Pogmoor Road is impressive and there has clearly been a policy of preserving the trees - once fully operational it will be a stunning piece of 'architecture.'

Correct. the last car in the queue from pogmoor to dodworth Rd is regularly nr the post office..any further and ya start to affect the traffic at top of summer lane...walked across PPP yesterday and although there are directional signs coming down dodworth Rd(and a no right turn sign) drivers were still attempting to turn on broadway. cant blame planners for drivers who ignore clear signage...still unsure whether it's deckchairs on Titanic tho..

    Only just seen this thread.

I'm currently on long term supply (teaching) at a school in Rotherham. It usually takes me 15 minutes maximum to get on the M1 at J37 from Penistone.

    Took 40 on Friday morning.

Went through Stainborough and Birdwell this morning and got on at 36. Although my mate said there were no queues around 07:45.
