We've lost a considerable amount of money during the time the current owners have been at the helm. Our bank balance has gone from healthy to zero, pretty much. And we've not had the covid accounts yet. On what do you base this theory, because it certainly doesn't appear to be our finances.
Brentford work the model very well funded in the main by player sales with an exposure to increased costs based on promotion only which wipes those costs out. As others as pointed out would be very difficult to run that model without someone willing to underwrite it.
Isn't it £6m? And don't we cover around 20% of that with contract clauses after relegation? I'd expect some movement out of the club as well, especially Helik given his contract situation. It's taboo to praise the club at the moment, and this isn't really praise anyway, but commercially we do seem to be doing much better. Bringing sponsors on board that have global or multi-billion backgrounds is no bad thing - the issue is it should be blended in with news on new signings. The LED screens aren't just there to look pretty and something that's been mentioned often over the years. It's not a good time to be a Barnsley fan right now, on or off the pitch, but I don't personally see admin as a likely outcome for us. Hopefully you don't have to bump this thread and say 'I told you so' in 12/24/36 months time.
I'm working on the assumption that other teams have been relegated in a far poorer position than we find ourselves in. And with owners just as lacking on the investment front. I'm not nailing my colours to the mast and saying it definitely won't happen. I was just answering a question put to me on if I thought it was likely - and I don't.
It was £6 million last time I'm guessing it will have increased. So you've found 20% what about the other 80% say we can't sell players for anything like we need to who funds the shortfall??
I have no reason to think we won't be able sell our players. Feels like you're trying to force a scenario that won't be there. And when you sell a player you also lose them from the wage bill. If Woodrow does move on in the Summer, even at £750k, if he's on over £10k a week then that's an additional £500k+ off the wage bill as well.
I look at it like this. I go into the bookies and have £2 win on a 10/1 shot and it wins. I walk out with £22 a smile on my face and treat myself to a 12 pack of Strongbow and a kebab. That's the Barnsley model. If I go into the bookies confident and feeling flush I put twenty quid on at 10/1 and walk out of the bookies with £220 **** a hoot. Ring Laura and we take George to coast for day and have sumat nice to eat. The Brentford model. I know which I prefer. I'd rather potentially lose the £20 and live a bit than die wondering.
As you allude to, or I think you are anyway, owners like Matthew Benham and Mel Morris are fine while ever they keep writing the cheques. It’s when they stop, that’s when the issues arise.
Cryne stopped writing the cheques here. That's why things stalled and Robins ended up on gardening leave.
Unfortunately not. I just can't see point having a 12 inch knob though if you aren't prepared to jiggle it about now and again.
Whatever woodrow goes for fulham get 50% plus are clubs going to take the risk on a player who has just had knee surgery and acoring record in half a season prior wasnt great. Hopefully we can get **** of sicknote (oulare) and his rumored 10k a week off the wages not sure which club will be daft enough to take him though.
Oulare is being linked with a loan to Willem II in Holland. Not seen anyone mention it on here and just been told about it.
Thing to remember about the EFL is the manage the rules not make them. The clubs who make up the EFL make the rules by the virtue of they have to be voted in by them.
