I'm not trying to force any scenario but as things stand we have the summer window and half the winter window gone and we've sold Chaplin and the board claim there were no other offers for players in the summer and seen as we have to sell before we can buy I'm guessing we've not had any so far this window so why do you have "no reason to think we won't be able to sell our players" for enough to cover the loses. Because I can certainly see a scenario were clubs don't want to pay us what we want.
Key word there is 'guessing'. Word from the club thus far (which you can challenge but is the only evidence we can go from) is that we won't be selling any first team players this window. You can choose not to believe them but after that it's just wild accusations no? I have no reason to think we won't be able to sell the players because like I said, I think they'll be Championship clubs who would want them in their squads.
Classic "straw man" thread. It has to be 'invest like Brentford' or 'be prudent like us'. As though there can be no gradations along that scale. Football is like any other business. It requires investment to some degree to grow and succeed. In most businesses standing still means going backwards.
Thing with loans is he could be prepared to write them off if he wants out of the club, that does happen. I think another key difference is backing Thomas Frank, they ve had continuity there. A new manager or he every season is just too disruptive.
There was a unsubstantiated rumour, that the selling price of the players involved was above what any club were willing to pay. Nothing to do with tactics and style of play, as suggested allegedly by the board.
I wish people would stop holding up the Brentford model, as if it's something we should admire or emulate. It's part of the problem with football - rich people with more money than sense, all on a bloody ego trip, trying to buy success, and trashing the overall sport into the bargain. These clubs should be universally despised, not held up as something wonderful.
Brentford have bought success but they use a hybrid version of our business plan on steroids. We are shopping in Poundland spending little and gambling on low level previously failed or broken players. Sometimes managing to sell some of those players to Lidl and Aldi. They are buying from Lidl and Aldi and selling to Sainsbury and Waitrose. It takes investment to make money and unfortunately the 80%s only investment was to buy the club, even though they haven’t fully paid for that! But have since invested less than nothing and allegedly removed money from the football club.
They took a gamble & it’s paid off. Take a look around the championship & league one for plenty of clubs that’s taken a gamble & failed. It’s each to their own but I would not be comfortable with my club taking on someone like Pontus Jansson on 30k a week with little / no resale value due to his age for £5m when they couldn’t get 10,000 crowds. It’s dangerous. They were only ever a couple of bad signings, injuries or personal problems away from the whole model going tits up.
