Much as I like the performative impact of this, switching from the Tories to Labour doesn't make any logical sense from an idealogical point of view. Tories to Lib Dems, perhaps.

Not sure how happy I'd be as a Labour MP welcoming someone into the PLP who's represented the Tory party. But then again, I'd also be equally uncomfortable sitting alongside SCG morons like Richard Burgon.

Never liked that, doesn't matter who goes to which side. Anyone who stands at an election for one party then changes party's should have the guts to stand down and call abi-election to let the constituents decide.
But MPs and guts are not two things found together much..

I agree to some extent but the role of an MP SHOULD be to represent the best interests of their constituents in my opinion. It's irrelevant unless another 70 odd do likewise though.

An MP's primary duty is to do what is best for the country, constituents are secondary.

If he'd been door to door over the last year you may have a point.. But I very much doubt this is anything but his personal preference. Like it or not, come election time people normally vote for a party and not the candidate. I find it arrogant and dismissive of the local people that voted them in if they cross benches.
They should go back to the people for the mandate..

David Davis has just stuck the knife deep in, excellent.

I'm actually quite shocked by that. Can't stand the man. But the style and delivery of that intervention rocked DePfeffel and took him aback completely.

Starmer made mincemeat of him. Mocked him, ridiculed him. Some very witty ripostes too. And DePfeffel was incredibly rattled.

Yet there were still hundreds of tories playing the pantomime of supporting him. I have nothing but loathing for that party. Occasionally you get some decent MPs, but the party and its leadership are morally bankrupt.

Starmer has done that continually since he became leader of the opposition.

All this from Johnson about longer lockdown and slower rollout under Starmer is wearing thin there's no evidence either were the case.

He stopped calling him captain hindsight if you notice as well because most of what Starmer said happened he was ahead of the curve following the science and Boris was letting the bodies pile high.

    Dear Prime Minister,
I am writing to inform you of my decision to resign from the Conservative Party and apply to join the Labour Party.
From today I will be sitting as the Labour MP for Bury South because I have reached the conclusion that the best interests of my constituents are served by the programme put forward by Keir Starmer and his party.
I care passionately about the people of Bury South and I have concluded that the policies of the Conservative government that you lead are doing nothing to help the people of my constituency and indeed are only making the struggles they face on a daily basis worse.
Britain needs a government focused on tackling the cost of living crisis and providing a path out of the pandemic that protects living standards and defends the security of all. It needs a government that upholds the highest standards of integrity and probity in public life and sadly both you and the Conservative Party as a whole have shown themselves incapable of offering the leadership and government this country deserves.
Being elected as MP for Bury South was the proudest day of my life. I care passionately about the area and will always be grateful to those who have supported me. Today, however, I am in no doubt that they will be better served by my joining a party that genuinely has their interests at heart.
I have wrestled with my conscience for many months, and you will know that I have made my policy misgivings clear on many occasions in private and sometimes in public. I can no longer support a government that has shown itself consistently out of touch with the hard working people of Bury South and the country as a whole.
Under Keir Starmer, the Labour Party is back firmly in the centre of British politics, in touch with working people, and ready to provide an alternative government that this country can be proud of, and not embarrassed by.
My decision is about much more than your leadership and the disgraceful way you have conducted yourself in recent weeks. However, I don’t believe all politicians are the same and I do believe in the power of politics to be a force for good. So does Keir Starmer. He has shown that integrity in the way he has led his party on issues that matter to me, not least the vital challenge of combating anti-Semitism.
I will always put the people of Bury South first and will continue to speak out for the changes the area needs. Changes that can only be delivered by a Labour government with Keir Starmer.
    Yours,
    Christian Wakeford

PS - He was the MP who allegedly called Owen Patterson a 'lovely person' so can't be all bad :D

Changing parties will be hidden away on news websites now Boris has decided to scrap all rules everywhere :) No more face masks anywhere and rules on care homes to be relaxed which is brilliant.

Read his letter in the post below, he’s left because he firmly believes the Party no longer represent his Constituents

Ideologically there’s not a lot of difference between the Torys and Starmers Labour , so I’m sure he’ll fit right in

This winds me up something chronic. It is to me a damning indictment of what Labour has become under Starmer. Dishonest and willing to be played by the right.

The antisemitism row was manufactured to keep the left, and particularly Corbyn, out of power. Yes there will have been antisemitism, and that’s terrible, but it wasn’t unique to Labour. And where is the Tory islamophobia row? Our PM called Muslim women letterboxes. Apparently that’s okay, but criticising Israeli policy is racist. It stinks.

Starmer has broken his ten pledges he made as a candidate for Labour leader. He has no integrity and will simply say and do whatever it takes to progress his career. He’s slimy and right wing enough that even Tories are becoming interested.

My guess is the real reason is less altruistic and more self interest, he only has a majority of 402 with an electorate of 75,000, the chances of him winning again is virtually nil...Labour will have guaranteed him his candidacy.
