I think they have lost a fair few readers by the above actions. My brother will not have it in the house. I hav even stopped buying the "Didcot Herald".
Doug's other half once reported me as dead in the Chron, from a smack o/d. True story. She did buy me a pint to apologise though. Swings & roundabouts.
"The family" were from York, if memory serves me right(?)...Had to refer to one of them as 'Mr Timothy'... then there was an old stickler called Mr Bayne. First page my old dear went to was the bereavements page lol. Must be an age/from a certain era/gossiping thing.
I'd love 15 thousand people to attend regularly no matter which division we're in regardless of the football on offer and be taken seriously after saying it.
Dont buy it now ever since Farage front page. I did email the editor at the time to tell him so and to his credit he did reply saying they were paid well to do it. So basically if you want to plug anything at all pay the chron and they'll give your views a full front page. Pathetic. No moral fibre or integrity whatsoever. If at some point the chron made a public apology and said they would never prostitute the paper like that again I'd reconsider buying it. They wont do that though so I'm never buying it again.
That was the first page my late father went to. If his name wasn't in there then he knew he was good for a little while longer!
Nice summary at the end: "But the owners have brought it on themselves with a series of decisions over the last eight months which range from mistakes to negligence to catastrophe." https://www.barnsleychronicle.com/article/22170/comment-khaled-speaks-but-we-must-hear-from-conway
Made me smile that poker in the middle of fire hope it didn't get sucked into flames them were the days .
when Junior Didcot Reds 1,2 & 3 were small, when we visited my parents they would lie awake in the morning waiting for my dad to get up so they could "help him light the fire.
The Chronicle was useful for drawing up the fire, screwing up as firelighters. It became toilet paper too in some homes. It used to be a real value for money publication
