If a match has to be halted due to a fan's health issues, personally I have no problems with it. The health and well being of an individual is far more important than a game of football. I think the health of Stephen Croft was of far more importance than our game against Burton, for example.
Covid has been shown to potentially damage the heart and cause clotting. Tens of millions of us have now had it. Statistically it’s going to do some damage, sadly
That was a steward falling over and banging his head. No doubt some on here will still try to imply that the vaccine made him lose his balance or summat.
Or maybe the medical services these days are better trained to deal with theae incidents and have all the right equipment on hand.
Didn't some poor soul pass away during our play off final win v Swansea in Cardiff? That game continued regardless. I think this is much more likely the case.
It has always happened but now every inch of the ground are covered by cameras & incidents are swiftly acted upon thankfully & interestingly I think attendances are bigger in this particular era thus more spectators means incidents are more likely , interestingly recently on Facebook someone has been showing results from corresponding dates in the eighties & crowd figures are a real eye opener , with top flight football only getting crowds of 50% of what they are now & the other leagues following suit .
It's a bit like the perception that if you let your kids out of the house then they'll be kidnapped by pedo because there's sooooo many more of them around than there used to be. The reality is that there isn't. They've always been here. We just didn't have social media or media coverage in general before.
Stress on heart (people get worked up at football matches) + stress on heart (from having covid) + more social and media coverage + more awareness = more visible incidents. Some may not be heart related either, such as epileptic fits, falls etc.
Nobody knows the long term effects of the vaccine or even covid itself we can't cancel out either but neither can we assume it's any of them for the reasons.
Would be interesting to know how many players/fans who have needed medical assistance in the past 12 months have been badly with covid.
Well I think you know that isn’t true… I don’t think there are any more incidents to be honest. They just didn’t used to be highlighted and reported, games stopped for them, like happens now. I’ve seen people carried out of the stand on three separate occasions just within close proximity of me. I mean yeah that’s over nearly thirty years of going - but the game wasn’t stopped on any of those occasions and nothing was mentioned on tv or the papers as I recall. I’m ashamed to say I’ve no idea how any of the three of them were - one looked particularly in a bad way, though I saw no cpr being administered. This was a chap maybe 50-55 in the east lower somewhere, late nineties. I’m sure there were many more that I didn’t even notice. It’s a change for the better that this doesn’t happen anymore - I’m less than convinced there are more people taken ill at games though.
Not sure how far back you’re talking, but I remember an old bloke receiving medical attention and being taken out of the East Stand by paramedics. The match wasn’t stopped then. That would’ve been some time in the 00’s.
Didn't know about the MK Dons one. One every so often but three in a afternoon? It keeps getting swept under the carpet. Nobody appears to be looking in to why they are happening all the time these days so something can hopefully be done to stop it happening.
